Trend Alert: Handkerchief Hems

30

Fashion is experiencing a hippie revival and I am not protesting this trend. However, I need your help deciding if I like handkerchief hems or not. I already confidently don wide-legged jeans and denim vests, but I'm not so sure about this nonchalant detail. This Jovovich-Hawk for Target Arabesque Halter Dress ($30) is something Lux would have worn in The Virgin Suicides but is it too '70s nostalgia. Thoughts?

I like the Jovovitch-Hawk dress as well... too bad I'm in Canada and am therefore Target-less. But bring on the hippie revival! Flares and wide-legs look SO good on my figure.

I think it can be an interesting detail - my mom just wore a handkerchief hem dress (rouched black top and then silky gold/black handkerchief skirt) to a wedding and it looked great. I think it depends on the dress, and the style it is going for, but it can be difficult to pull off and easily look cheap.

I really don't like that dress or the hemline.

I just bought that Jovovich-Hawk dress the other day! I saw it in the store, knew I had to try it on, and knew I had to buy it! I don't think that it looks the same on me as the model. It barely even looks like a handkerchief hem. It looks way exagerated in that photo. I'm 5'6" with 34B cup and I bought a small. It is only tight in the chest area, but it makes me not need a bra, as the halter neckline lifts everything up!

you need to have the right look to carry off something like that.

I love modern, girly, hippie looks. 70s nostalgia is great, as long as it's modernized in some way. I tried on that Jovovich-Hawk dress at Target the other day...it looked really cute on but ran VERY small. And I'm a size 2. I didn't love it enough to buy it, but I did think it was a cute summer dress.

on the whole i am not a fan- i think this was popular like 7 or 8 years ago. there might be a one off piece here and there that i like but i don't really seem myself buying anything with this!

Not a fan of this hemline. It tends to make any dress look sloppy and dare I say cheap!

I love the hippie trend, but I am not a huge fan of this dress. I think hankie hems are unflattering on most and I don't know how I feel about the seam on the waist.
