Tying a Sweater Around Your Waist: Yay or Nay?

call me crazy. i'm a guy. and i like this style. i'm 13. i do it with a blue northface sweater a dark blue when i wear jeans around winter.

I think that if you do it with a tartan or thin flannel shirt it would make a good contrast

I don't see why woman hate this look. As a straight guy I love seeing woman tying a sweater around there waist. The only reason this looks bad is because lately you only see really old people doing it or you see people doing this fully clothed. This looks best when ladies are wearing like sleeveless tops and shorts or skirts that shows off there legs. Another thing guys like a little extra hip so if it looks like it adds a few pounds to the hip area, well then heck yeah!

I do this but not as a fashion-oriented option, simply as a practical one sometimes. Finnish sunny days can be chilly on a whim, especially as the day wears on a bit!

I do it out of necessity. I'd much rather do that than wear it on my shoulders, preppy style.

I haven't done this since I was in elementary school. I can understand the practicality of it though. Just the other day, I saw a mother who was really pissed off trying to wrangle up her 3 kids and and all their crap and she had her jacket tied around her waist. So it has a place in the world. But I try to avoid doing that because I know that I'll just look dumb.

I never thought of tying a sweater around my waist as a fashion choice. More like a necessity so not to have to carry it!

Er, I stopped doing this after Year 6. Some girl in my high school used this to hide her period stain though.

OMG I HATE this!!!! I just saw it the other day and made a mental note (yeah I know, I waste brain cells on that) to NEVER do that (and I dont usually, although I did in the 90s when it seemed to be cool). And tourists always do this - not just with sweaters, but with jackets, etc. Tie it over your shoulders if you REALLY must!

This screams tourist to me. I think it's because they always tie they're big sweatshirts around their bermuda shorts (I live like 7 blocks from big tourists spots). But even with the touristy thing aside, it's a bad, bad look. It ruins the outfit! Not a fan.

The only time I really remember tying a sweater around my waist was when I was in middle school in the mid-90s! Tying it around your shoulders looks better. And the 'sweater-over-bag' look is better too.

I only do it when I'm out hiking or doing something active, and I'm in a place where I can't drop off my jacket. Normally, I'll drape it over my canvas bag as I walk around campus or stuff it in a bag.

If I don't feel like wearing the sweater or holding it I would wrap it around the waist. If not I wouldn't do that otherwise.

I can't nay it...it's not particularly attractive, but its practical and I'm always on the side of practicality.

Nay. When I was in 2nd grade I used to do that to my sweaters and over shirts all the time (I was going through a tomboy phase then...) and trust me, I do not want to look like my 2nd grade self. I just dislike it on myself for that reason.
