4 Holiday Party Outfits You Can Wear When It's Freezing

Dec 24 2013 - 9:00am

Because being cozy isn't always synonymous with looking cute, even your best party look can be ruined with a bad jacket or bulky coat. To ensure that that doesn't happen, we're putting our fashion math to good use to warm up our holiday-perfect ensembles without marshmallow jackets, puffers, or fleeces.

Instead, we're making use of rich textures, like faux furs, cool leather jackets, and tailored coats — and just remember, you can never have too many pairs of tights on hand. With these on hand, rest assured there's a way to cozy up even your stem-baring, bejeweled cocktail dress. For the fashionable how-to, just keep clicking (and shop away!).

Warm up a cocktail dress the right way — read: no puffers or fleeces. Leave your sportier toppers at home and finish off a luxe party dress with a faux-fur jacket or coat that feels just as dressed-up. As for your bottom half, don't leave your legs out in the cold; add a pair of black tights to finish off the look as sleekly as possible.

A pair of jacquard trousers, metallic heels, and statement jewels have "holiday festivities" written all over them. Likewise, finish with something cozy that's just as much of a dressed-up complement. We'd add in a slim-cut sweater and a luxe-looking furry vest.

You can absolutely wear your pencil skirt — don't let the chill stop you. Instead, be prepared with tights underneath and two cozy layers on top. Start with a festive jacquard or embellished sweatshirt up top and bundle up with a cool-girl leather jacket for contrast. If you fear being underdressed, just add in more sparkle with a pair of jeweled earrings or go for even more shimmer with a statement necklace.

We love the unexpectedly sexy effect of leather shorts and a lacy top, but should the temperature-drop prevent you from going bare-legged, just warm up with tights and a plush fur-collared coat that's both luxe and cozy.
