The Weekender: What Stays in Las Vegas

Jul 12 2013 - 12:05pm

Whether you're headed to Las Vegas for a bachelorette party or packing your bags for a weekend with the girls, there's one thing you can count on: fashion there is like no other city in the US. It's "anything goes" with an emphasis on more, more, more. Pack all the sequins, feathers, and rhinestones you can find and mix freely.

Accessories are key, too, no matter if it's a late night out at the casinos or afternoon cocktails by the pool. Since the sheer onslaught of bling can be overwhelming to anyone, we've prepped some outfit combinations to make your packing go smoothly.

The Inspiration

Vegas sunbathing is different than other locales. Bikinis can be glitzy and accessorized with chains, tassels, extra strings — and jewelry!

The Look

Keep in mind that part of the Vegas pool game is attracting attention. Take along metallic extras, bold leopard print, and a bikini that's far from typical (this one has extralong strings to wrap around your torso!).

What to Pack:

The Inspiration

The desert town is known for a lot of things, including epic, boozy pool parties. An old t-shirt and flip-flops won't cut it here as cover-up attire. Opt for cute dresses and tanks and, yep, platforms or heels!

The Look

Accessorize your sunbathing look just like you would a regular day. It makes it extraeasy to step out after a day in the sun for a quick game of blackjack or a trip to some of Vegas's big-name boutiques.

What to Pack:

The Inspiration

We love a boldly colored leather mini, and the trend can go so many ways. For day, pair it with a more casual top in a demure color.

The Look

Strolling the casino floor during the day? Leave your sequins for after sunset, but still look ready to party at the drop of a hat in a pink leather skirt, black silk tank, and killer accessories.

What to Pack:

The Inspiration

While we wouldn't typically think of Kate Bosworth [15] as Vegas style inspiration, she nails one of our must-pack looks here: the sequined mini! We love the flashy piece paired with a simple top.

The Look

For day, we like the idea of wearing a downtown top with all that shine, like this vintage-looking graphic tank. Keep it Sin City appropriate with killer accessories.

What to Pack:

The Inspiration

If there's a single must pack for Vegas, it's gotta be a sequined minidress. In any color or shape, it belongs in your suitcase!

The Look

Don't even think about trying to keep it demure when you're in Nevada's biggest hot spot. Start with the perfect blingy cocktail dress and then add sparkle with your extras.

What to Pack:

The Inspiration

A sharp tuxedo blazer is a chic and easy thing to throw on over many an outfit — Jamie Chung did it here in all Alice + Olivia. We especially love it for Las Vegas thanks to the Rat Pack nod.

The Look

Here, the jacket adds a nice final formal touch to a pure party-girl ensemble. It's also a good piece to add some coverage to the short, tiny, and low-cut items that seem to wind up in a Vegas suitcase without exception.

What to Pack:

The Inspiration

Cutouts are darn sexy, and we especially love them in unexpected places, like this dead-center placement.

The Look

This bright red dress has interesting cutout placement that proves to be interesting, not shocking. It'd work in any zip code, but can easily be Vegas-ed up with gold accessories and statement sandals.
