As an African-American, the thought of slavery never crossed my mind when I saw the picture. I thought it was a jewelry ad of some sort!
White guilt hurts us all by coloring innocuous things, e.g. the above picture, with the ugliness of the past. Slavery ended HUNDREDS of years ago people. Get over it already and leave it where it lies.
Clear your mind and your PERCEPTIONS will follow.
I competely agree with GlowingMoon's comment. In this pic, I see a beautiful woman showing off stunning gold jewelry. Anyway, I'm all about rings. Especially bold, gorgeous statement rings.
This picture is a bit shocking to be showing off some jewelry! Regardless, I think all the pieces look great-- I especially like the bracelet and the ring, the woven design is awesome.
When it comes to the pic, I'm in the minority. To me, my first impression was not slavery, as a woman adorned with chokers, armbands, ear cuffs, etc. is NOT a slave. In fact, for me, it has the opposite connotation. It reminded me of Egyptian royalty, or the elaborate costumes of cultural dancers. I think the picture is quite lovely. What if the model was non-black, say an Asian woman? Would there have been an implication of slavery??Perhaps the slavery comments says more about the viewer than the picture itself. JMHO.

i usually don't wear a ton of jewelry but lately, i'm starting to! i love necklaces. i have a bunch of ear piercings so i always have those in. i just bought a watch and i always wear it.
I love all forms of jewelry however I do favor necklaces and rings, especially vintage. My favorite piece is a vintage gold & dark green jade ring my great aunt passed down to me.
Earrings, as someone said before I feel naked without them. Apart from earrings, I don't usually wear most other forms of jewelry.
EARRINGS!! ..i like rings too but i tend to lose them because i tend to play with them.. i tend to break them because when im going to wash my hands i take them off and put them on the back pockets of my jeans (i sit on them!) LOL
i love bracelets, rings, earrings and necklaces but i always where bracelets.
I like necklaces and earrings for the most part. Very few rings appeal to me, as I find they annoy me while typing, and I am overly conscious of their presence on my finger. Bracelets always seem to get in the way.
Rings definitely! Probably because my hands are the most beautiful parts in me so I like to emphasize them by wearing a ring. I'd definitely feel something's missing if I wouldn't be wearing one :)
Ah, jewelry. My favorite subject. :)
By far, my favorite piece is my wedding set (engagement ring and wedding band). I looooove it. I love wearing it. I love looking at it. I wear it most of the time.
