Which (Super)Models Are the Most Fab?

I'm just going to come out and say it: the supermodels of the '90s rule all. However, with the resurgence of old school models in Fall campaigns and the like, there was bound to be a backlash. For me, fashion is mostly fun and games, but there are some things I feel very strongly about. The esteem of the era of the supermodel is one of those things.

Both of these black-and-white groups are shot by Peter Lindbergh. The posse on the left, led by Naomi, Christy and Cindy was shot in 1989 for British Vogue. The youngins on the right, including Lily Donaldson, Catherine McNeil and Sasha Pivovarova, were in the most recent issue of Vogue Paris. Times have changed, huh? Often imitated, never to be duplicated, I think there is no comparison. But I'm biased — in 1989 I was a budding fashionista and these beautiful girls were my first idols. What say you?

ah not even a comparison! Its 2010 and only 3 in the photo of the new class are even around today (it shows who is special eh?) The 90s girls at least lasted for MANY years and many are still going strong. I don't think we can say the same thing for the new girls. Only Poly,Sasha,and maybe Lily D are relevant. Doutzen's looks faded dramatically recently. Cat Mcneil is irrelevant now. All I see is a bland copycat photo on the right. The new girls all look alike. In the 90s there were about 20-50 top models all looking so different. Now there are 200+ all looking the same. they are walking hangers. That is why I appreciate Gisele. Because at least no one else looks like her, has her personality,walk.etc...She is the last one.

I love the new models. Sasha Pivovarova, Irina Lazareanu, Lily Cole, Agyness Deyn, Coco Rocha, Iekeliene Stange, Jessica Stam, Natalia Vodianova, and Tatyana Usova are just a few to name that are my favorites. I wish their names were brought more to light like the nineties models, though.

Divapupgirl : I miss Gemma. I believe she's taking a time off due to Heath Ledger's death. Hopefully Ali Michael will be on the catwalk next season, so far Philip Lim confirmed her... and she's Sasha is a supermodel xD

that's a great photo of the 'old ones'.. the new ones are very very pretty too but there don't seem to be any new well known supermodels since HEidi and Tyra's time. Oh, and Gisele... correct me if I am wrong.

The Original girls had such distinct looks! The new girls don't really have their own look, I can't recognize them from one another. :zzz:

I hate it when people pull the "I am too young to remember" card, because I know many of the models from the 1960s. If you were a teen when Kate ruled the catwalk, then you are about my age. I loved the supermodel era. The supermodels hit it big in 1988, but didn't stop walking that same year and Kate Moss hit it big in like 1993. The waifs may have been a new wave, but the other girls were hardly out-of-work nobodies by then.

No one can replace the supermodels of the 90's. They were fierce :) Linda Evangelista is so beautiful and exotic looking. Cindy, Naomi, the one who married Edward Burns (can't think of her name now) Anyway, they were icons. I don't even know any of these new models. They only model clothes. 90's girls did everything. They were actually icons.

satoriv, I agree with you on the names you've listed, although Sasha Pivovarova is considered one of the top models due to being Prada's ad campaign face for many seasons (including accesories and perfume lines as well). Where has Gemma disappeared to these days? It's nice to see Lily Cole reappear again after dabbling in acting. also, where is Ali Michaels in that picture? I mainly recognize her from her Teen Vogue days.

I think the VS models represent today's 'supermodel', but other catwalk models have become dull and interchangeable. Gisele, Karolina, Heidi, Alessandra are surely worthy of the title..? All but Adriana Lima, I have never seen such a plain-looking girl being tagged supermodel. She really isn't, to my taste.

New girls cannot even match the grace and sexuality that the old school models had. Today's models are all about 'normal girls with interesting features' or whatever they call it but the models of the 90s were beautiful regardless! Old-school wins, hands down.

i will echo everyone else and say originals. they have much more distinct features from each other and don't look like a group of starved robots. i don't even know the names of any of the new models.
