Why are Doc Martens "ugly"? Not feminine, ok, but why "ugly"?

And what about Chuck Taylor's Converse? I suppose they're ugly too?

doc marten's when i was 6! i wanted them so baddd! and my dad got me a pir of white ones with flower prints all over them. uh-huh!!

tevas are great for camping! come on.. havaianas do not last on a hike.

as for crocs.. er.. can i at least save some face by saying that at least mine are the ballerina styles! for work! cuz they prevent any slipping when i walk through the kitchen and bar area! (i'm a waitress/barista for now)

im glad to say that i have never put my fet into any of the ugly shoes mentioned. I don't care how comfy they may be, there are plenty of comfy and cute shoes out there..no need to resort to ugly.

I love UGG's...i don't think they are ugly...maybe fugly? but not plain ugly.

I am guilty of wearing uggs it's so cold travelling to and from London everyday in winter that I can't help myself. I always think they look ugly when I wear them, but they are a lot less ugly than some other footwear and they are so comfy.

Ugg boots. They're a necessity when I'm outdoors for significant periods of time in the winter. I don't think they're even that ugly though- I wear mine with dresses for a sort of 70s hippie look. I wore Doctor Martins as a teenager, and they're back in style this season- they've even got Daisy Lowe in the ad campaigns.

Not only do I wear Birkenstocks, I also love my Teva mush flipflops and have owned 4 pairs of awesome Doc Martens.

Uggs and Crocs. I also have a pair of Doc Marten boots, but no in the traditional style. My baby blue croc Mary Janes are the lightest best shoes for taking my son for a long walk in.

Really? Doc Marts are back in style? Doesn't make much difference to me though, I've been wearing the one pair I have for 13 years, and they're still good!

I got some crocs for shower shoes. I'm sick of flip flops falling apart or growing weird smells from the moisture. Would feel too weird to wear them out as street wear, though.

What are these cute and comfy shoes of which you speak? Maybe those of you who know of some can help the rest of us out with a fabfind list.

I love my uggs!!! I will wear them no matter what people say about them. For days when you are just playing with the kids, running errands and lounging around they are perfect!!!

I've worn Uggs since I was little and I refuse to give them up. They are one of the essential winter pieces when you live in Upstate New York. And I think they are cute too!

I'm guilty of wearing a pair of purple and green tevas...but only when I'm on vacation with my family in the mountains and stuck in shorts and tank tops the whole time. I would never wear them out in actual public. And I HATE uggs.

I wore Docs - ONLY Docs - fifteen years ago. I had a closet full of 'em and wouldn't wear anything else.

I don't wear any other shoes on this list, never have. I suppose a lot of people might think my fringed Minnetonka boots are ugly, though.

i will wear birkenstocks until the end of time. just because you aren't squeezing your toes into impossible points or teetering on horrifying high heels doesn't mean the shoes aren't cute. i was wearing their cairo sandals long before hollywood caught on, and they are still the best shoes i own.

I agree with the necessity of Uggs. I mean people in LA who wear them when its hot--thats kind of ugly. But when there are feet of snow on the ground there is just no other show that is practical. I mean they slip on and off, they are warm and toasty, I call them my winter flip flops since I HATE have to struggle in and out of other shoes!

I wore Doc Martens all the time in high school during the "grunge days"...I loved them at the time, but completely agree that they're pretty ugly now. Too masculine-looking for me to ever wear again.

Those Croc Clogs are so ugly, I'd never buy those. They always remind me of gardening shoes.

i love my Uggs! i have like so many different pairs! different colors and all!... but honestly they are sooo warm! i dont know what i would do without them!... and i think they look cute when you tuck your jeans into them.. with a cute winter sweater and scarf and mittens! i love it! and im always nice and toasty warm!

crocs drive me NUTS!!! i totally get if you have an actual reason for them, i.e. not slipping, or working in a hospital and always on your feet....but seeing grown men wearing orange ones to the mall just makes me sad!!

I made so much fun of Uggs for years, then I was freezing one night and we were around a fire and my friend said try them on. They are the warmest things I have ever worn, I bought a pair and I dont regret it

I wouldn't be able to survive winters without my Uggs! Taking the T (Boston's Subway) to and from work everyday in the snow in heels? No thanks. I'll take my Uggs any day, and change into heels once I get to work.
