I am shy about telling my friends because the economy is so tough and a lot of people have to really watch it now. Luckily we are ok. My husband actually ran the AMEX report recently and saw that I spent $22k at Shopbop since Jan 2008 and he thought it was funny. If we were worried about our jobs or had kids or debt, it wouldn't be so funny anymore.

I definitely hide, though NOT from overspending or overshopping. Rather, my husband disapproves of ANY spending at all while we are trying to pay off his massive medical school debt. I appreciate the need to save and agree with him 99% of the time, but I work hard, 80+ hour weeks, and sometimes I need to treat myself for the work I do -- it's frustrating that all the money I earn only contributes to paying off his debt. I had purchased no clothes, shoes, cosmetics, ANYTHING since November, and last weekend I broke down and treated myself to a pair of shoes, on sale for $78. Spending $80 on myself once every 6 months is NOT overspending my any means, but I had to hide it from my husband because he would absolutely not approve of adding to my (pre-marriage, purchased with my own money) shoe collection.

I'm going to the opera tonight and the dress i'm wearing tonight i bought a few months back. It's been in it's garment bag with winter coats and all that jazz. Also I leave bags in the car. I know it's silly and it's not like it we are having hard times but he gets mad when i shop a lot. And I shop a lot.

i live at home, so to cut the crap with my mom i usually lie about the price of things or never mention that anything's new.

Sometimes I just fib a little about the price. I try to buy EVERYTHING on sale, so usually I do get good deals.

Yes, because I get into modes where I buy way too much stuff. Also, it doesn't help that my weight and size can fluctuate a lot leaving me very frustrated with the clothes I have. So, when I've bloated up two sizes and I've given those clothes away, I find myself scouring online sales and H&M (to save money - go figure). And then the habit of looking for "bargains" sinks in and I spend a lot of money. I try to return as much as I can too, though. But the worst was when I was depressed and got into a designer bag obsession. That really got me overspending. now, I'll downsize to pockets if I can.

I flaunt it! I'm a pretty good shopper and am usually proud of the great outfits i got at such a great deal. And i'm proud to share that information with others. If someone really likes my shirt, i'll tell them where i got it and how cheap it was, i know i'd wanna know if i saw something i liked and someone else told me how easily accessible it was.

I hid bags in my trunk or ask for no bag and put purchases in my purse, send online items to my parents house &/or fib about the price!! Terrible, I know!! But my live-in boyfriend always gives me a guilt trip about spending money! Haha, I think its kinda fun to be so secretive

No, one of the best parts about shopping for me is bringing the stuff home to show to my b/f (or dragging him along to the stores to get his opinion).

No. If anyone questions me, I calmly explain that I'm wise with my money and can afford this. Usually shuts them up.

Nope. I have the opposite strategy. I tell my husband, act sort of guilty, tell him I am considering returning it.... He tells me how great it looks - and begs me to keep it, hah hah! Works every time.

No I think that's a bit silly. I used to splurge and go a bit overboard but as I've grown up I've realized sometimes it's better to save than buy buy buy.

i do not hide them but I do sometimes lie about the price. Like if I spent $200 on clothes I might say $150 or less. :) But I keep it realistic. It isn't like he cannot find out the truth.
