A Zebra in the Garden at Zuhair Murad's Couture Show

Zuhair Murad recently told us that his "collections each season begin with a fantasy or a dream." If that's the case, his Spring 2014 couture line, a confectionary offering filled with sweet lace pieces, floral embroidery, and lots of sparkle, must have started in a lush secret garden.

Where else would the designer, whose gowns are no stranger to the red carpet, find the pink, purple, and sky blue blooms that covered one gown? Where else could have served as the inspiration for, say, the vines and tendrils that snaked across more than one dress — or the bouquet of white roses that covered Murad's bridal finale gown?

Murad was very much up to his old tricks in this show, with lace appliques covering what needed covering on sheer gowns and no shortage of sparkle or froth. But there were a few surprises: a long-sleeved bodysuit that looked worthy of a Beyoncé tour, and a black-and-white gown that looked like nothing so much as an extremely glamorous zebra. A zebra that looked happy to frolic around so many beautiful flowers, at that.
