Fab Ad: Lanvin, Fall '10

Lanvin's been keeping busy this Summer.

Lanvin's been keeping busy this Summer. In addition to debuting its new boutique in St. Tropez, the brand is also working on a new interactive website. While we anxiously wait for the latter, let's feast on its fresh Fall '10 ad shot by Steven Meisel. In his own magical way, Alber Elbaz created hardcore elegance with Magdalena Frackowiak, Anja Rubik, and Mariacarla Boscono wearing a mix of shiny lamé, icy gray, and embellished black. The slick silver box backdrop is a good contrast against Alber's textured masterpieces, and we love the tough accessories. Dramatic makeup — via dark raccoon eyes and punchy pink lips — furthers the brand's hard-hitting vibe. We love it, do you?

Alber Elbaz Does Multifunctional Fashion For Lanvin's Resort Collection

"All women want to be different," said Alber Elbaz at the close of his resort collection for Lanvin.

"All women want to be different," said Alber Elbaz at the close of his resort collection for Lanvin. According to his cruise lineup, they also want multifunctional fashion. Heavy on transformable pieces—a draped one-piece swimsuit doubles as a "robe de yacht" with the addition of a mini skirt and turns into a more evening appropriate dress when paired with a knee-length swing skirt. There were also reversible cocktail looks, which go from basic black sheaths to tulle and ruffle embellished chiffon dresses with one simple zip. Clearly Elbaz has been thinking of a modern girl and her many wardrobe needs.

>> The ANDAM prize of €220,000 (approx. $279,000) has in the past two years enabled winners Gareth Pugh and Giles Deacon to move their runway shows to Paris Fashion Week and raise their international visibility. Who will be next?

This morning, the ANDAM jury, presided over this year by Carine Roitfeld and including Alber Elbaz, Hilary Alexander, Colette's Sarah Lerfel, Jefferson Hack, and Opening Ceremony's Humberto Leon, named six nominees for the 2010 prize. Among them are: Mark Fast, known for casting "plus-size" models in his body-conscious knit dresses; couturier and Thierry Mugler alum Alexandre Vauthier; Turkish designer Hakaan Tildirim, whose last show attracted Kate Moss and Roitfeld in the audience and Lara Stone and Natalia Vodianova on the runway; Francesco Scognamiglio, whose oversized Fall 2010 fish belt was worn by Anna Dello Russo straight off the runway; Balenciaga and Christian Lacroix alum Bouchra Jarrar; and Calla Haynes, who worked with Olivier Theyskens for five years at Rochas and Nina Ricci.

The 2010 winner will be announced at the end of next month.

Meisel also shot the Lanvin campaign this week in New York, with Alber Elbaz overseeing another trio: Anja Rubik, Magdelena Frackowiak and Mariacarla Boscono.

Givenchy, too, is rumored to be going with a trio of female models — Ming Xi, Joan Smalls, and Mariacarla Boscono — joined by a few male models in front of Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott's lens. But the trio trend breaks there — word going around is that Meisel captured 12 girls for Balenciaga, including Finnish newcomer Kirsi Pyrhonen, and Roberto Cavalli is going solo with Gisele Bundchen shot by Mert and Marcus.

>> Christian Louboutin's business grew by the double digits last year, he tells Vanity Fair in a profile from the magazine's May 2010 issue. He sells more than 340,000 pairs of shoes annually, ranging from $495 up to an amount he won't reveal (but a custom-made pair of Louboutins, like one with sole made entirely of rubies, can be priced into the high five figures). In fact, at a dinner soon after the financial crisis, he recalled his reaction to be, "What's 'credit crunch'? Is that a new gym?"

The designer doesn't believe in advertising or marketing and he claims to have never "pushed" celebrities into wearing his shoes on the red carpet. "My goal has never been to make money." Some celebrities receive a discount at his boutiques, but he rarely gives shoes away.
