Platforms are all the rage again, and I say, give into the pressure! Some of the recycled trends from this season I just can't get into, like the acid-washed jeans, but platform shoes are back, and in my opinion, should never leave us again! I've never been afraid to rock my platforms, whether a pump, boot, or sandal. Standing a modest 5'2", I like that extra boost to make me look longer and leaner in my clothes, and to put me at eye level (or above) with the rest of the world.

Rings are one of my favorite accessory items. They are simple, but yet, add a sense of personality to any ensemble. My recent favorite trend are the double finger rings. I absolutely love them. They are the modern day brass knuckles. I like the play on the element of "bad ass" with a splash of class. Forever 21 features several Double Finger Rings for only $2.80. Who can beat that, I bought each and every one. I know, what a shame! And, they are a great Christmas gift idea for something small, but memorable. I always knew they existed — I have seen their chic dresses, sexy heels and cool tops. I am talking about Topshop. I got even more excited when I found out they opened a store in NYC, although I live in Denver, Colorado. I must say, things come around a lot slower around here, and don't get me wrong, there are nice stores here, but it's not to the point where they satisfy my fashion cravings.

The leaves are starting to change colors, an umbrella is becoming your new best friend, and your nice suede moccasin boots start to feel the abuse — what's the fashionable solution? Hunter Gum boots! These boots are sleek, chic and don’t really look like wellies. You can without a doubt, wear them with your favorite pair of jeans, tucked in, and they will have a very urban, I am going hunting with Prince Charles this afternoon look. To be totally honest, Hunter boots are the real deal, the Rolls Royce of wellies — and they come in a cute, fun array of colors. My favorites? The pink pair and the black – so classy and versatile. I could possibly go for the timeless black, forest green, or navy option, although all the colors are Fab. Hard to make up my mind . . . If Kate Moss can rock these boots and get rave reviews in Vogue, I'm sure any fashion-conscious girl can pull these off.

Just last week we read that the price of designer denim was dropping. Granted, many big name jeans still sell for $200, and some people rationalize that price for a basic wardrobe staple they wear several times a week. I myself have fallen victim to fashion stupidity and shelled out over $200 on Sass & Bide jeans. They're gray stretch denim, and are my favorite pair I've ever owned. Maybe after wearing them for four years non-stop, I might get my money's worth. Though I'm not the type of person who has 40 pairs of jeans, I have about six and wear them to death, so I don't mind spending a little more. That said, the most recent pair I bought cost $70. It is a recession after all! So imagine how annoyed I was to see this new pair of jeans by Acne, adorned with some type of modern body armor, selling for $2,000. Those ridiculous things had better protect you — they cost more than several months rent!

Rise and Shine! Metallics and mini dresses are back with a vengeance. The trend this season is sexy shine. As pictured, Eliza Dushku is showing us a great example of this trend done right. Forever 21 and American Apparel have some great alternatives we can all afford.

When choosing metallics there are a few things to consider:

• The type of material of the garment: Fabrics with shine, if not chosen wisely, can come across as low quality. To prevent this, try the item on first. Is there a stretch to the fabric or do you just look like a roll of aluminum foil?
• No shine overload: I am all for glitz but sometimes there can be too much. If you are going to incorporate shine into your ensemble, please use discretion. Do not ever wear this fabric as a top and bottom. The fashion police will be called immediately. Choose one garment and stick to it.
• Have fun: Metallics are all about fun and making a statement. So own it and be fierce.
