Everything You Need to Know About Martha's American Food

When you've written as many books as Martha Stewart has (she's up to a whopping 77 by her own count), finding ways to add something new can be a challenge.

When you've written as many books as Martha Stewart has (she's up to a whopping 77 by her own count), finding ways to add something new can be a challenge. But at a recent round table hosted by Stewart to kick off the Macy's American Icon campaign, the doyenne of American entertaining told us that readers can still learn a lot from her cookbook Martha's American Food: A Celebration of Our Nation's Most Treasured Dishes, From Coast to Coast.

In it, Stewart gives a regional overview of what makes American food so special and includes recipes for everything from Indiana succotash to New York cheesecake. "American cooking is really an amalgamation of all the world's cuisines because we're the quintessential melting pot," she told us last week. "This book kind of incorporates by region what all those foods are."

So what sets this book apart from the rest of Stewart's oeuvre? Keep reading to find out.

Stolen Style: The 10 Most Memorable Fashion Heists

Police in France are still on the hunt for the jewelry stolen from a Chopard employee's hotel room in Cannes last week, but there are plenty of other, much older fashion and jewelry thefts that still haven't been completely solved.

Police in France are still on the hunt for the jewelry stolen from a Chopard employee's hotel room in Cannes last week, but there are plenty of other, much older fashion and jewelry thefts that still haven't been completely solved. Case in point: only a portion of the legendary raid at the Harry Winston store in Paris was ever found, and it doesn't appear that all of Marc Jacobs's stolen Spring 2012 samples were found.

But even though grand larceny, like all theft, is reprehensible, the motivation to steal things as gorgeous as Louis Vuitton's handbags and Chanel's jackets is understandable. Herein, a look at some of the most brazen, lucrative, and strange thefts in fashion.

Terry Richardson's Hands Star in Terry Richardson's Valentino Campaign

Looks like Terry Richardson is just as comfortable in front of the camera as he is behind it. The photographer both shot and stars in Valentino's Fall 2013 accessories campaign.

In the images, which will debut in fashion magazines around the world starting today, Richardson's hands and tattooed forearms are seen holding the brand's Rockstud handbag and shoe — both in signature Valentino red. The house's co-creative director, Maria Grazia Chiuri told WWD the images are supposed to evoke "the sensual yet elegant nature of our accessories, described as objects of desire."

While this is the first time Richardson has worked with Chiuri and her partner, Pierpaolo Piccioli, it's certainly not the first time he's appeared in one of his own campaigns. Last August, Richardson lensed an ad for jeweler David Webb that features both him and model Eniko Mihalik.

11 Fashion Exhibits You Should See This Year That Aren't About Punk

Punk: Chaos to Couture might be this year's most-celebrated fashion exhibit, but it's certainly not the only one on display.

Punk: Chaos to Couture might be this year's most-celebrated fashion exhibit, but it's certainly not the only one on display. In fact, just this morning, Somerset House in London announced that later this year, it will feature an exhibit on the late Isabella Blow.

Elsewhere in the world, the Rhode Island School of Design in America is highlighting historical and contemporary dandies, and the NRW-Forum Düsseldorf is featuring a show on the legendary Azzedine Alaia. And even the Metropolitan Museum of Art has another fashion exhibit that focuses on clothing in impressionist art.

A look at those shows and the other exhibits about fashion currently on display around the world, here, in the gallery.

Here's What Riccardo Tisci's Barely-There Ballet Costumes Look Like on the Dancers

Riccardo Tisci's latest side project saw him designing sheer costumes for the Paris National Opera Ballet's production of Maurice Ravel's Boléro, which debuted at the Palais Garnier Thursday night.

Riccardo Tisci's latest side project saw him designing sheer costumes for the Paris National Opera Ballet's production of Maurice Ravel's Boléro, which debuted at the Palais Garnier Thursday night.

Tisci, creative director of Givenchy, explained in a statement about his designs that he "wanted the dancers to feel naked somehow," and added that the costumes express the same dark and romantic sensibility seen in his ready-to-wear collections.

"The dancers wear nude catsuits in illusion tulle embroidered with white lace forming a skeleton," he said. "They shed several layers as they dance just like the life cycle of animals or flowers losing their petals. They become these moving skeletons, strong and fragile at the same time."

A look at the costumes in production and in action, here in the gallery.

Like the adorable pomeranian in the Tous ads that came before them, these dogs look like expert models. Avenue32 tasked five dogs with sitting, sniffing, and moving around sunglasses, scarves, handbags, and one pair of cage heels from a variety of talented designers and brands. Phillip Lim's 31 Second Clutch makes an appearance alongside a curious British Bulldog named Papillon, and a Bedlington Terrier named Wilfred gets a shot of color with a silk scarf.

Kick Starter: The Award-Winning Nicholas Kirkwood Shoes You Can Buy Right Now

There's likely more than one British designer wishing they could step into Nicholas Kirkwood's shoes right now.

There's likely more than one British designer wishing they could step into Nicholas Kirkwood's shoes right now. On Tuesday, Kirkwood became the first accessory designer to win the British Fashion Council/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund.

"Nicholas has created a real business in an impressively short amount of time and has become one of the world's most influential shoe designers," said British Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman, who's on the fund's judging panel. "I very much look forward to seeing what he does next."

What's next for Kirkwood is a plan for major growth. The prize includes £200,000 (just under $315,000 at current exchange) and an 18-month mentoring program for Kirkwood and his partner Christopher Suarez designed to help them turn their company into a global fashion brand.

Kirkwood, who recently designed all the shoes for the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, beat a field of other young talents that included Roksanda Ilincic, Mary Katrantzou, Peter Pilotto, and Emilia Wickstead for the prize. In the past, the award has gone to Erdem Moralioglu, Jonathan Saunders, and Christopher Kane, the latest talent to join luxury conglomerate PPR.

Only time will tell if a big deal with one of the world's foremost fashion companies is in the cards for Kirkwood, too. In the meantime, a look at some of our favorite Kirkwood originals available right now.

Starting today, the ecommerce site will offer over 70 pieces from Missoni's vintage collection, including accessories, separates, and gowns, that range in price from $110 to $990. All but one of the pieces — a blue Pachamama sweater that Missoni's grandmother bought for her in London — are Missoni, and many of them have a special significance for her. In the video below, Missoni highlights a sweater that reminds her of New York and an evening gown she wore on the first work trip she took with her future husband. All proceeds from the sale will be donated to OrphanAid Africa, a children's charity Missoni has supported for nearly a decade.

"Sometimes life has really been too generous with me, and this is definitely the case with clothes," Missoni says. "But now it's time to release them and the energy which surrounds them. If I didn't, I would need life to be just as generous in terms of closet space, homes, and even more patience from my husband."

What Would You Want Out of an Emeril Food Truck?

Emeril Lagasse celebrated the launch of his cookware line at JC Penney last week by serving gumbo from a truck outside the retailer's New York City flagship store.

Emeril Lagasse celebrated the launch of his cookware line at JC Penney last week by serving gumbo from a truck outside the retailer's New York City flagship store. It was fun to imagine him competing with other food trucks for lunchtime orders, but Lagasse told us he's not setting up a mobile restaurant of his own just yet.

"We don't have any on the horizon right now," he said. "I'm going to talk to Martha [Stewart] later and we'll see what happens."

Still, he seemed pretty intrigued by the idea. "What would you want out of an Emeril food truck?" he asked after a pause. "Gumbo? Barbecue shrimp? Po'boys?" For us, the answer is a hearty "all of the above," but we figured we'd help him out by crowdsourcing a few more opinions.

Emeril Brings New Cookware to JC Penney

Dishwasher-safe nonstick frying pans, pots with silicone handles that stay cool, and a safety focused pressure cooker are just a few of the features of Emeril Lagasse's new line of cookware for JC Penney.

Dishwasher-safe nonstick frying pans, pots with silicone handles that stay cool, and a safety focused pressure cooker are just a few of the features of Emeril Lagasse's new line of cookware for JC Penney. The line, which will be in the retailer's stores this month, includes everything from a knife set to a bread maker — but it's the deep fryer that Emeril got really excited about when showing off the new goods in New York City last week.

"It has this oil filtration system, and I can't tell you what that means today, especially in today's economic times. Oil – gas – as you know, is not cheap. We have testimonials from customers who've used their oil in this machine six, eight, nine, 10 times with this oil filtration system." Take a look at the other things that set this cookware apart.
