The decor concept in this room is great — basic white color on floors and the minimalist furniture makes it easy to change the look and feel of the room. Bold patterns and the shape of the pelmets make them the centre point of the room thus creating a very vibrant feel.

The Colorblock Trend: What You Need to Try It!

If you've been eyeing the colorblocking trend, OnSugar blog Beauty and the Budget has the key pieces to get the look.

If you've been eyeing the colorblocking trend, OnSugar blog Beauty and the Budget has the key pieces to get the look.

The color block trend is one of the hottest trends right now, and it's a timeless look that will carry over into fall, too. Although this trend is fairly easy to pull together, there are a few tricks to help you master color blocking tastefully.

The key to this look is establishing two or three colors paired together. A purple top, green bottom, and an orange bag is one example. You can also throw in neutral accessories to really bring the look together. Your outfit should also be clean and chic—button ups or pretty blouses that can be tucked in to trousers will kick it up a notch!

What do you need to bring this look together? Bright basics in classic silhouettes! If you aren't up for wearing all bright colors, you can play with two colors from the same color palette, like turquoise blue and cobalt blue, or you can opt for a neutral colored bottom with a bright top and clutch, or vice versa.

To avoid looking like a walking color wheel, it is imperative to keep your color matching to a minimum of three and add neutral accessories.

To complete the look, try a nude polish with minimal makeup—it will make your outfit stand out!

The AMA Takes a Strong Stance Against Retouching Campaigns

OnSugar blogger The Fash Pack recently reported on the ongoing debate regarding model retouching in ad campaigns.

OnSugar blogger The Fash Pack recently reported on the ongoing debate regarding model retouching in ad campaigns. Read about the latest developments on this controversial topic right now.

Over the last few years debates concerning the rise in retouching has never been too far from the headlines. Ralph Lauren most notably made headlines back in 2009 for the dramatic photoshopping of model Filippa Hamilton in their ad campaign leading to the designer quickly apologising for the blunder. Despite the mass public criticism of the brand over-retouching of campaigns is increasingly becoming the norm, which has led to the American Medical Association to take a strong stance on the issue.

Queen of Punk: Vivienne Westwood Shoe Exhibition Beirut 2011

OnSugar blogger Black by Sara was lucky enough to check out Vivienne Westwood's shoe exhibition in Beirut.

OnSugar blogger Black by Sara was lucky enough to check out Vivienne Westwood's shoe exhibition in Beirut. Check out all of the cool footwear, plus an interview below!

After forty years in the fashion business, a unique designer such as Vivienne Westwood deserves a museum dedicated to her beloved shoe collections. We all have witnessed her adventures in tailoring that have taken us back to historical places; such as the 17th and 18th century French era. As the sole originator of punk style in the fashion industry, Vivienne Westwood has managed to connect the art world to her fantasy style island. To document the evolution of her footwear collections a private collector has decided to exhibit these exceptional pieces around the world. For two years these shoes will be traveling to specific locations due to their market requirements and will be displayed at various museums and palaces such as the famous Sursock Palace in Beirut. Luckily, the Lebanese media and I were one of the few that got invited for the first look at this marvelous collection.

The notorious Gillie Platform that was worn by Naomi Campbell

I’m still in awe with Westwood’s capacity and her approach towards fashion. The collections dates back to 1973, which means that a lot of us didn’t get to enjoy these beauties. Now it’s our chance to admire Dame Westwood’s defiance of high heel rules with elevation and historical design footwear.

We love wearing head-to-toe white in the Summer, and so does OnSugar blogger Beauty and the Budget. Check out her affordable options right now for an effortless warm weather approved look.

White takes precendence over every color this summer, and not only are we wearing it, we're wearing it all over! Chic and easy pieces in soft, billowy silhouettes are what makes the white-hot trend one of the freshest takes on minimalism. Forget adding a pop of color, play with textures instead. Mix a white lace blouse with a white chiffon maxi skirt, or opt for an oversized white button up mixed with a billowy white skirt. Don't forget to add a pair of white wedges and a few girly extras, like a bow headband or wide brim fedora.

Is the Flatform Just Too Much Platform?

OnSugar blogger styleology is on the fence with the flatform trend.

OnSugar blogger styleology is on the fence with the flatform trend. Check out what she has to say about her dilemma below, and help her make a decision!

The S/S 2011 fashion season featured many trends. Among them is a trend that I have struggled with is the flatform shoe trend. Is it a flat or is it a platform. I have no doubts that these shoes may in fact be much more comfortable and provide you the height that you are probably looking for, but I've always been afraid that it could also make you look like you modified a shoe from Herman Munster's closet. I searched high and low to see if anyone would be brave enough to make this shoe style appealing to me, (I tend to think I have decent taste). I finally found two that I found extremely cute and would be perfect for Sunday brunch with the girls, paired with a mini skirt and a canvas carryall. What are your thoughts? Would you wear this trend?

We're always in the market for a shoe as comfortable as it is stylish, so we love OnSugar blog fashion fortuneteller's easy-sweet, flat espadrille picks for Summer.

How many of you wore skippys all summer while growing up?  I clearly remember getting crisp white skippys at the beginning of the summer and rocking them out like every day - running around the neighborhood playing tag, jump robe, and having water gun fights.  I guess that's the beauty of Brooklyn.

Skippys were the ultimate affordable footwear at the time, and behold - Today's Obsession is the new school summer skippy: the flat espadrille.  I am in love.  Can't wait for another fun filled summer!

Celebrity Style For Less

Love the look of colorblocking?

Love the look of colorblocking? OnSugar blog Beauty and the Budget has your how-to right here.

Camilla Belle didn't need a fashion stylist for this look because it was pulled directly from the Gucci Spring 2011 catwalk. From head to toe, she rocks my absolute favorite runway ensemble and this season's most stellar trend — colorblocking. This is a simple ensemble to recreate, simply because it involves solid colored basics.

You can recreate the look using the pieces I selected above, or you can do your own shopping around to find the best deals. On a side note, I would check vintage shops for an orange blazer. Chances are, you'll be able to find a great, bright colored blazer for a great price. You can also adjust the color palette according to your own personal taste. If you aren't up for wearing a bright orange blazer, a beige blazer would make a great substitution. Or you can sub the bright green pants for a pair of black trousers instead. Modify the look how you see fit, but remember that the most essential part of this ensemble is colorblocking!

Belle Femme of the Week: Alek Wek

Alek Wek is a true iconic supermodel; check out what OnSugar blogger Blake Von D: The First Lady of Fashion has to say about her striking story and style.

You may not know her name, but you definitely know her face. Name a runway, she's been on it. Name a designer, she's worn it. Who is this I'm talking about? None other than the Sudanese British force that is Alek Wek.

She first appeared on the catwalks in 1995 after she fled the Sudanese civil war and has been making headlines ever since. What I love about Alek is that she is sort of the unofficial poster child for what it means to be a dark-skinned beauty. Seriously, I don't know too many "redbones" who would DARE step to her. Furthermore, I don't know many who could grab the attention of the caliber of high end designers that she has. Whenever I see pictures of her I honestly get a little choked up. I can imagine that coming from Sudan she has an amazing story to tell and seeing the fame she's been able to accomplish is both humbling & inspiring. Even before I knew her name, I loved her.

Pteleobius lamp

This is the Pteleobius Lamp. Pteleobius apparently belongs to the bark beetle family, and these little beetles are known to eat the wood under the bark, thus creating unique and beautiful patterns that have been used as a model for this lamp.

Pteleobius lamp

Designer Vaslyaev Maxim used elm in his creations and the outcome is quite exceptional — a modern steel lamp design combined with natural wood creates this soft twilight glow. A sculpture at day and source of soft light at night.

Adding Art to Our Bare Walls

Here's a post from OnSugar blog Yoo Rang?.

Here's a post from OnSugar blog Yoo Rang?.

For the first year we lived in our house, we had absolutely nothing hanging on the walls. I'm not much of a home decorator. It took an observation from marketman to make me realize that our walls were bare. Nude. Au naturale. I thought this could be my opportunity to get back into painting, so I proceeded to drop about $300 on art supplies — oil paints, an easel, solvents, canvases, palettes, brushes, and other assorted tools — which have since gone unused. I should have realized that I haven't touched paints since high school and that the mental hurdle of putting brush to canvas might be too great.

But slowly but surely, we have made a few changes. Thanks to his grandmother, we now have a lovely still life in the downstairs hallway (she is quite the artist), and we spent half of a Sunday framing a bunch of photos to create our own photo mosaic in the TV room. And despite our ugly sectional couch in the living room, we managed to spruce up the space with an obi we bought in Tokyo last year . . . and — oh yeah — the piano that marketman's parents generously provided as our housewarming present!

I think our crowning achievement is the "vintage" canvas bus roll we created with all of the places at which he and I (or he or I) have lived. I had to cut out a few of his early years (New Haven, Cambridge, Seoul, Daejeon) because there just wasn't enough space. So we stuck to the more significant locales for us as a twosome, and I found a cool font called Roadway that gave it that old bus station look while he used his knowledge of layers and effects to give it an aged feel before having it printed and stretched by Canvaspop.

Keep reading to see another shot of the artwork.

This Is Jane. She Wears Cute Clothes.

We're suckers for literary references, particularly when it involves iconic childrens' books.

We're suckers for literary references, particularly when it involves iconic childrens' books. Case in point: this adorable post from OnSugar blogger Miss Poppins' Purse!

The "Dick and Jane" books of the 1950s will always hold a spot in my heart, as well as a place on my bookshelf. The one-sentence adventures of these two children helped American children learn to read such useful sentences as "They love each other," and "See the bunny!" Okay, so perhaps I don't integrate these sentences into my everyday dialogue, but wouldn't life be easier if we all spoke in this direct, matter-of-fact way? Maybe only five-year-olds get that privilege. Although I do not often employ Jane's dialogue, I see her style in my wardrobe. Her gingham dresses, peter-pan collared dresses and shirts, as well as her adorable Mary Jane shoes, are essential for every girl, no matter the age!

Does Kate Upton Bring a Healthier Body Image to Victoria's Secret?

OnSugar blog The Fash Pack raises an interesting question about Victoria's Secret's attempt to portray a healthier image.

OnSugar blog The Fash Pack raises an interesting question about Victoria's Secret's attempt to portray a healthier image. Read what she has to say and tell us what you think!

Meet Kate Upton, the Victoria's Secret model who's charged with bringing a healthier, more attainable body image to the lingerie brand. Just last week, model Candice Swanepoel was criticized for looking "shockingly thin" at an event (even though she's never exactly been on the heavy side), and other Angels have previously been known to cut out food groups and work out for two hours a day for months before the Victoria's Secret runway show.

These photos of Upton, an 18-year-old and former Sports Illustrated swimsuit-issue model, just came out this week, allegedly showing that Victoria's Secret can be for people with more realistic shapes. What do you think? Does it bring a change to the brand?
