Louis Vuitton

FabSugar Designer of the Year Nominee: Louis Vuitton

The third nominee for FabSugar Designer of the Year is what you get when you pair one of the oldest French fashion houses with one of New York's fashion darlings.

The third nominee for FabSugar Designer of the Year is what you get when you pair one of the oldest French fashion houses with one of New York's fashion darlings. In 1997, Marc Jacobs was crowned the designer for Louis Vuitton and his collections have been spot on ever since. Pre-LV Marc Jacobs designed for Perry Ellis in 1986, and his tightly-knit polo shirts and cable knit cashmere sweater dresses gave way to grunge. Still remembered in fashion circles, the fashion wunderkind sent combat boots and dirty plaid down the runway, to very mixed results. Jacobs was fired in 1992...yes, fired! But whatever, that's just fashion history.

Marc immediately began an incredibly lucrative clothing business while modernizing Vuitton by collaborating with such artists as Stephen Sprouse (who irreverently graffitied bags) and later Takashi Murakami (who added a bubble-gum anime humor to the line). This year his Fall '06 collection was a trailblazer and his Spring '07 collection offered a big dose of true romance. Both would have made Mr. Vuitton proud.

Tune in tomorrow for our fourth nominee for FabSugar Designer of the Year and the voting will take place this Friday.

Fab Site

Fab Site Follow Up: Reesycakes.com

Yesterday I wrote about RetailMeNot.com, a website where you can find out checkout codes when online shopping.

Yesterday I wrote about RetailMeNot.com, a website where you can find out checkout codes when online shopping. Shortly thereafter, I received a note from a reader about another one called reesycakes.com.
This site works a little differently than RetailMeNot.com. To see the most recent postings, just click on the "Added" heading, and it will sort the codes in chronological order. This site also has more fashion-oriented boutiques, shops you are all familiar with like Revolve Clothing, Shop Intuition, Alloy and Bloomingdales. Reeseycakes.com also provides the tools you need to make savvy purchasing decisions. They have store listings and reviews, coupons, designer reviews, a jean guide, style tips, sale listings and more. Check them out and let me know what you think. A big thank you to our mystery reader!

Love It or Hate It

Anna Sui Butterfly White Boots: Love It or Hate It?

Oh Anna of rock n' roll fashion fame.

Oh Anna of rock n' roll fashion fame. Anna Sui is one of those cult designers who doesn't necessarily abide by the season's trends and has her signature look: rock n' roll attitude, babydoll dresses, studded accessories, retro prints and butterflies. I dig all of the above, except butterflies. I prefer ladybugs - but that's me. These Anna Sui Butterfly White Boots, on sale for $413, are a little too country for me. And you? Love or Hate?
