FabSugar Designer of the Year Nominee: Doo.Ri

Whether this designer wins FabSugar Designer of the Year or not, 2006 was definitely a plentiful year for Doo.Ri.

Whether this designer wins FabSugar Designer of the Year or not, 2006 was definitely a plentiful year for Doo.Ri. This new designer won both the Perry Ellis Award for emerging talent in womenswear and the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund in the past year and based on your response to her Spring '07 collection she may have a third win coming her way.

Doo.Ri has a rags-to-riches story. In 2001, Doori Chung started promoting her label, Doo.Ri, at her downtown New York store Klee. She debuted on the runway for Fall 2003. Before receiving much-needed funding, she had been creating out of the basement of her parents’ New Jersey dry-cleaning store. Then poof! Doori received an Ecco Domani award and then the aforementioned awards. Editors and shoppers alike adore her designs for their interesting architectural details and she works primarily with jersey - the ever-flattering fabric. Her finishing touches are chains that close a dramatically plunging back line and leather bands that cinch the waist. So where is Doo.Ri designing from now? A spacious, light-filled Manhattan work space. Nice.

Tune in tomorrow for our fifth and final nominee for FabSugar Designer of the Year and the voting will take place tomorrow afternoon!

Love It or Hate It

Yulea Net Shirt: Love It or Hate It?

While I do think accentuating a swan-like, graceful neck can be very beautiful this Yulea Net Shirt, $180, certainly does not flatter this model's neck.

While I do think accentuating a swan-like, graceful neck can be very beautiful this Yulea Net Shirt, $180, certainly does not flatter this model's neck. I saw this in the Love It or Hate It? group and it was found by justjaime27. And while this top has a modern edge, I simply don't think it is flattering - though I do like the olive green color and some parts of the cut. What do you think...love or hate?

The FabSugar Guide to Holiday Tipping

Did I ever mention how un-fab it is to tip poorly?

Did I ever mention how un-fab it is to tip poorly? I try to tip well all the time but when the holidays roll around I too forget what the standards are. Afterall, this Prada
French Purse Wallet
, $290, could use a little workout. Here is my FabSugar Guide to Holiday Tipping:

  • Teacher: $25-100. A gift certificate is always appropriate. If you know the teacher's hobbies or interests, then a gift certificate would be nice.
  • Baby sitter: One night's pay, plus a small gift from your child.
  • Full-time nanny: One week to one month of pay based on tenure, plus a small gift from your child.
  • Day care service: $25-70, plus a small gift from your child.
  • Apartment building superintendent: $50-200. (Tip less if you tip throughout the year).
  • Apartment Doorman/concierge: $10-80 or more each, depending upon building. Those who serve you more should get a bigger tip.
  • Apartment building handyman: $15-40 each
