NY Fashion Week: BCBG Max Azria

Lately I've been crazy for the Fall 2006 fashions from BCBG Max Azria—so much so that I'm afraid my obsession could have a deleterious effect on my budget.

Lately I've been crazy for the Fall 2006 fashions from BCBG Max Azria—so much so that I'm afraid my obsession could have a deleterious effect on my budget. But I'm not sure how I feel about the label's Spring 2007 collection, unveiled Friday at New York Fashion Week, which eschews the label's usual sleek city look in favor of girly dresses in boxy shapes.

The show, attended by Kristin Cavallari, Kelly Rowland, and Carmen Electra, featured lots of Moroccan-inspired cutout lace, babydoll dresses, slouchy shoulders, and neutral tones paraded alongside bright spring green, celadon, and oceanic blues. This exotic, romantic Near East look could also be found at Nicole Miller; do I sense a trend? To see the highlights from the collection, read more

NY Fashion Week: Baby Phat

Welcome to the first of Fabsugar's runway reviews from New York Fashion Week, which officially kicked off on Friday.

Welcome to the first of Fabsugar's runway reviews from New York Fashion Week, which officially kicked off on Friday. One of the first and flashiest shows: BabyPhat by Kimora Lee Simmons. Like most events held by the sister label to Phat Farm, the unveiling of the Spring 2007 event was a celebrity magnet, attended by Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Lil' Kim, Brandy, and, of course 50 Cent, who ended up in a front-row scuffle.

As for the clothes, the styles were in keeping with Baby Phat's usual high-end hip-hop vibe, with some notable twists, like lattice-work midrifts and dolman-sleeve tops. Spring 2007 also looks to be carrying over some trends from fall, like dressy shorts and girly menswear atop capri-length leggings. To see the highlights from the Spring 2007 collection, read more

Shop Smart With Car Share

On Friday we told you how to shop smart with reusable tote bags, but here's another way to make sure your shopping sprees have a low environmental impact: car sharing.

On Friday we told you how to shop smart with reusable tote bags, but here's another way to make sure your shopping sprees have a low environmental impact: car sharing. These membership-based programs are a great way to get access to a car without the hassle of owning or renting one. I personally am a huge fan of San Francisco non-profit City CarShare, which I use for shopping trips, Goodwill drop-offs, and even moving. But there are two national car-sharing providers, Zip Car and Flexcar, which have cars in a number of U.S. cities, including Chicago, Washington D.C., Toronto, San Francisco, Boston, New York, and more.

Both services let you reserve cars online by the hour or the day, and gas, parking, and insurance are included in the fee. You can pick up the cars—including cool models like Mini Coopers and Toyota Priuses—at various locations around town. Pricing structures differ somewhat depending on the provider, so to learn more about how the programs work, visit the Zipcar and Flexcar informational sites here and here. You'll never have to beg a friend for a ride to Target again.
