Trend Alert: Winter Shorts

I know they are ridiculous and ultra-trendy, but I just can't help it: I love winter shorts!

I know they are ridiculous and ultra-trendy, but I just can't help it: I love winter shorts! In fact, I plan to wear this silly fad as much as I while I've got the chance, before it's completely outdated.

Mind you, I don't really like wearing shorts in the summer. But in the cold months, you can pair your shorts with textured tights, tall boots, and platform pumps, all of which look great with this season's tweed and plaid styles. Here's a look at some of my favorite cold-weather shorts at both designer and non-designer prices.

Secrets of Charm Tweed Shorts, $220, available here.

Robert Rodriguez Belted Walking Shorts, $265, available here.

Vince Wool Plaid Cuffed Shorts, $195, available here.

Catherine Malandrino Short Pant with Sideseam, $295, available here.

Men's Products

One for the Guys: The Art of Shaving

If you're looking for a great gift for your husband, dad, boyfriend, or any other deserving man, check out the luxurious line of products from The Art of Shaving.

If you're looking for a great gift for your husband, dad, boyfriend, or any other deserving man, check out the luxurious line of products from The Art of Shaving. With its four-step approach to facial-hair removal, the New York brand has truly elevated shaving to an art form. Its regimen involves a roster of high-end products, including lubricating pre-shave oil; shaving creams that can be applied by brush or by hand; swanky razors and brushes made from nickel, wood, and even sterling silver; and delightfully creamy after-shave balms.

With sleek packaging and luxurious scents (including lemon, sandalwood, and lavender), Art of Shaving products make excellent gifts. (Plus, how many men do you know who would buy themselves a $22 jar of shaving cream?) I've bought Art of Shaving gifts for my boyfriend and my dad—both of whom battle very substantial beards—and they were both completely bowled over by the experience. Art of Shaving products are available individually or as a Starter Kit, available here for $38, or in Deluxe Sets, which start at $342 here.

eBay Find of the Week

eBay Find of the Week: Londonderry by Peabody blazer

Tweed is hot for Fall—not to mention warm and cozy—and I love this cute 1950s Londonderry by Peabody tweed blazer, currently for sale on eBay.

Tweed is hot for Fall—not to mention warm and cozy—and I love this cute 1950s Londonderry by Peabody tweed blazer, currently for sale on eBay. With its optional stand-up or lay-down collar, it would be a great, lightweight option as the weather cools off.

I love the cuffed sleeves, and the silhouette is completely feminine and modern. Plus, the current bid is just $9.99! You can buy it here. The auction ends on Sept. 29.

Benefit Cosmetics

All-Weather Face Palette

When I think "weather girl," I think cutesy, overly made-up TV personalities.

When I think "weather girl," I think cutesy, overly made-up TV personalities. But the beautiful, '70s-era earth tones in this limited-edition Weather Girl Palette from Benefit Cosmetics are anything but tacky. Rather, the trio of lip colors and three eye shadows are meant to be layered on "for a look that's as unpredictable as the weather."

The adorable package—taking its inspiration from a retro TV set—contains three lip creams in champagne, nude, and rose, which can be worn separately or mixed and matched together. The same goes for the shimmery shadows in beige, medium brown, and deep bronze. Though the earth tones work well for Fall, they're light and subtle enough to be worn in the summer, too. Fab Site: Art Effect Chicago

Last time I was in Chicago, I stumbled upon this fabulous shop called Art Effect, a neighborhood boutique on Armitage billed as "a modern day general store."

Last time I was in Chicago, I stumbled upon this fabulous shop called Art Effect, a neighborhood boutique on Armitage billed as "a modern day general store." Now, I'm thrilled to discover that the store has a web site, too. Like its bricks-and-mortar equivalent, the online shop sells a wide array of adorable things, ranging from quirky designer fashions and jewelry to pretty stationery and luxurious home wares that make Art Effect a great place to buy wedding gifts. Here's a look at some of my favorite merchandise.

Alexis Bittar White Necklace, $104, available here.

NYC Coffee Cup Coin Purse, $27, available here.

Skincare

Cellcosmet Arrives In the U.S.

Cellcosmet is a skin care line from Switzerland that's making its debut in the United States.

Cellcosmet is a skin care line from Switzerland that's making its debut in the United States. The company was founded by the owner's father, who ran a clinic where old Hollywood superstars, including Ava Gardner and Frank Sinatra, would come for cellular treatments. The clinic offered injections of live cells, which help rebalance and revitalize the skin and keep it looking young.

Cellcosmet's skincare line follows a similar philosophy. After seven years of development, the brand has developed a way to use live cells in its products. While other cellular-repair products used freeze-dried cells, Cellcosmet uses live, stabilized cells, which are purer and more powerful. It's like the difference between a cup of Starbucks and a mug of instant Sanka. This explains why the cost is so much higher than other skin care lines. To read more about Cellcosmet, read more

Trend Alert: Ruffly Blouses

If ever you've longed to dress yourself in prim and feminine ruffly blouses, now is your chance.

If ever you've longed to dress yourself in prim and feminine ruffly blouses, now is your chance. Ranging from multi-tiered cascades to simple accents, ruffles are all over shirts for Fall 2006. But the look isn't easy to pull off.

To avoid looking like a librarian or a lady who lunches, try pairing the flouncy shirts with somewhat tougher pieces, like denim and leather. For a dressier look, you can go more chic, but make sure the rest of your outfit is sleek, not fussy—think pencil skirts and graceful platform pumps. Here's a look at some of my favorite ruffly blouses at both designer and non-designer prices.

Rebecca Taylor Ruffle Top with Cami, $189, available here.

3.1 Phillip Lim Ruffle-Front Halter, $297, available here.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Casey Stripe Silk Top, $228, available here.

Elie Tahari Joelle Blouse, $248, available here.

Lanvin Perfume

Rumored To Be The New "It" Perfume

Predicted to be the new "it" perfume by people in the know, Rumeur by Lanvin is back for its third launch within the last 72 years.

Predicted to be the new "it" perfume by people in the know, Rumeur by Lanvin is back for its third launch within the last 72 years. The original fragrance debuted in 1934, was discontinued in 1971, then relaunched in 1979 before being discontinued again in 1982.

The new, modified scent was developed by perfumer Francis Kurkdjian of the frangrance company Takasago and Lanvin creative director Alber Elbaz. Together, they've created a woodsy, floral musk with a base of patchouli and musk and top notes of magnolia, white rose, jasmine, and orange tree blossom.

It is available as an eau de parfum and a parfum exclusively at Saks.com. The scent was initially so popular that Saks had to pull if off of the site, but it's now available for pre-order here or over the phone at (800) 347-9177; it will be back in stock by Oct. 4th. A .5-ounce bottle of pure perfume sells for $125, a 3.3-ounce bottle of Eau De Parfum sells for $85, and a 1.7-ounce Eau De Parfum sells for $65.
