Merci! Gracias! Danke Schön!

Writing thank you cards is one of those gracious things I think a lot of people wish they were better about.

Writing thank you cards is one of those gracious things I think a lot of people wish they were better about. I'm sure you all received some fab, and maybe not-so-fab, gifts over the holidays and whichever category the gift falls in, it is sometimes extra polite to follow-up with a 'thank you.' While we're on the subject, a couple of etiquette tips:

  • When in doubt, put it in writing. Here are the times you must send a thank you: if you're a houseguest, the guest of honor at a party, or if you weren't with the gift-giver when you opened the present.
  • If you're not a wordsmith, simply mention the gift and add a line about what you plan to do with it. Or describe one thing you liked about the party.

Here are a few thank you notes from my new favorite stationers:

Elum Designs, prices range from $12-$16 for a pack of six. More prints available.

Chocolate

A Chocolate Bar That Helps Clear Your Complexion?

Attention all choc-o-holics! Could it be true that a chocolate bar can actually help to clear your complexion?

Attention all choc-o-holics! Could it be true that a chocolate bar can actually help to clear your complexion? Believe it or not, the masters behind the Borba Clarifying Anti-Blemish Chocolate Bar, $8, claim their Swiss, dark chocolate bar is formulated to remove toxins, prevent breakouts and reduce irritation and redness on your face.

Scott Vincent Borba, of BORBA Nutracueticals, and Kristy Choo of Jin Patisserie, have joined forces to challenge the oldest chocolate related fallacy known to man.

This petite bar of chocolate is made with extracts from the Acai berry, green tea and biogenic Vitamin C to help strengthen your capillary walls as well as restore radiance to your skin. Lastly, the special cultivated bio-vitamin complex also found in the bar helps your skin cells regenerate more rapidly.

In a recent study, 52% of the sample group who ingested this chocolate bar regularly over a 28 day period reported their breakouts were significantly reduced. I can hardly believe that chocolate could be the answer to my breakouts. This is revolutionary!

Winter Hair Woes Solved! Thanks To Frederic Fekkai

Hair guru Frederic Fekkai has created a limited edition winter hair collection.

Hair guru Frederic Fekkai has created a limited edition winter hair collection. Wahoo! I am really excited about this as my hair takes a beating in the winter and special haircare is necessary for extreme climates. I think guys would be into sharing these products too; hat head is not sexy! Here are my picks from the collection:

Winter Hair Anti Static Weightless Mist, $15. This weightless mist utilizes organic salt to neutralize the static charge and soften the surface of the hair and Fekkai's exclusive Insulate Winter Protection technology - a protective silicone complex that seals-in moisture, softness, and shine, provides UV protection, and seals and smoothes the hair cuticle.

Winter Hair Lift-Define-Shine Styling Compact (Anti-Hat Head), $25. One part Root Lifting/Piecing Wax and one part Glossing Balm, this slim compact does "double duty" creating instant fullness and lift at the roots and smooth definition at the ends (wax), and it insulates the hair cuticle and locks in shine (glossing balm).

The Look for Less: Louis Vuitton Silver Speedy 30

The Louis Vuitton Monogram Miroir collection is hot hot hot.

The Louis Vuitton Monogram Miroir collection is hot hot hot. The Speedy 60 in silver, is $2,700, and Lindsay Lohan's choice. The Alma in silver and gold, is $2,250, and is preferred amongst Paris Hilton and her BFF of the moment, Kim Kardashian. This collection is by special order only. These slick, extreme, oversized bags have a lightening bolt effect; they scream: Paparazzi! Over here! Look at me!

Metallics are all abuzz and this trend carries into Spring 2007 so if silver strikes you, you may want to check out what I found to achieve this look for less. Life & Style magazine also talks about this trend in this weekend's issue.

Beauty Mark It! A Lightweight Cuticle Cream

Is anyone else a cuticle picker?

Is anyone else a cuticle picker? OK, it's kinda gross but it is a bad habit of mine. To prevent this nasty habit, I get manicures on a regular basis and keep my cuticles happy and moisturized. I use this Kiehls Imperiale Moisturizing Cuticle Treatment, $19, as a nighttime treatment and I love it. But with harsh winter weather upon us, I need a lightweight cuticle cream I can carry with me to apply at all times.

Let's all go beauty marking to find a lightweight cuticle cream! Be sure to come back and tell me when your Beauty Marks are up, or just tag your choices with lightweight cuticle cream. To learn what a Beauty Mark is and how to make one, click here.

Dolman Blouson Top by Plenty: Love It or Hate It?

I have never been a fan of the 80's infused dolman sleeve.

I have never been a fan of the 80's infused dolman sleeve. I just think it's a sleeve shape that should have stayed in its place in the (fab) movie Flashdance. It's unflattering and too billowy per moi. I came across this Dolman Blouson Top by Plenty, on sale for $138.50 (originally $277) and just do not likey.

This sheer black blouse has ornate detailing on the front and back. Vibrant beading creates detailed patterns across bust and along bottom of blouse. There is a 5 1/2" silk black drawstring tie to cinch your waist. What do you all think, love it or hate it?

Simply Fab: Shu Uemura Pure Color Lipstick

You have got to love the packaging behind the new Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Lipstick, $23.

You have got to love the packaging behind the new Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Lipstick, $23. You will never have to search around your purse again because this tube is bold and clear! This line is an entirely new concept in lipstick technology. The company has developed a pigment for unlimited variations in colors that promise a brighter and more vivid look that can not be replicated by other brands.

Shu Uemura is calling this technology, color fidelity. This lipstick stays on true to the color that you see in the case. It has an extraordinarily rich texture and goes on smoothly with a ceramide shield that locks in moisture for up to eight hours. Shu Uemura is so confident that this pure color lipstick will be a success they are discontinuing all other lipsticks in their line. Rouge Unlimited is currently available in 48 shades and six artist shades that help you customize your own color. This is what the artist colors are intended to do:

  • white - lighten colors
  • blue - soften bright colors
  • purple - deepen and enrich colors
  • green - neutralize and mute colors
  • yellow - add a golden/peach effect
  • black - darken the overall tone of the color

What's Your Sign Baby?

One thing you didn't know about me: I'm a bit of an astrology buff.

One thing you didn't know about me: I'm a bit of an astrology buff. While I don't read my horoscope on a daily basis I do believe certain signs have certain characteristics. Me? I'm a Sagittarius - independent, optimistic and adventurous, but also impatient, blunt and thin-skinned. Yep, that's me! So being the astrology fan, I thought this partnership between the jewelry designers of Ten Thousand Things and star astrologers Stella Starsky and Quinn Cox was pretty cool.

They have created a jewelry line called Astercast featuring intricately made necklaces, bracelets and earrings that evoke individual zodiac signs in symbolic charms. The Stellium charm necklace, which is the hottest piece, is rendered in 18 karat gold and has an old fashioned charm holder which shows exquisite, custom-made zodiac baubles representing your star sign, it's color, your number, your birthstone and your ruling planet. The Astercast collection can be bought here.

Here's the necklace for my sign, Sagittarius. Anyone notice a similarity between the necklace and Fab's turquoise accents? Coincidence? The charms are: Jupiter, Archer, #9, Purple enamel and cool topaz. And this will have to remain a wish upon a star as the price is $2,395.
