Fab Flash: The Truth Behind Faux Fur

Did you know that many faux fur coats that are sold in the U.S.

Did you know that many faux fur coats that are sold in the U.S. are actually made from dog fur? The Humane Society of the United States reports that 24 out of 25 jackets that have been tested, were incorrectly labeled.

The tests show that the fur comes from a breed of dogs called raccoon dogs, an Asian and northern European animal that looks remarkably like a raccoon. Coats made from this fur are manufactured by Diddy's clothing line Sean John, Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger. They are sold all over the country in large department stores such as: Macy's, Burlington Coat Factory and J.C. Penney.

It is said that the fur is coming from China. The law prohibits the import or sale of dog and cat fur products, however, if the amount of fur on an item is worth $150 or less, then no labeled is required. This is how the wool has been pulled over the eyes of the consumers.

The issue is being discussed further on Capital Hill by Rep. Jim Moran, D-Virginia and Rep. Mike Ferguson of R-New Jersey about how to regulate these types of legal loopholes. Also, The Humane Society is currently speaking with department stores that carry these types of products about pulling them from their stores.

Zac Posen

New York Fashion Week, Fall 2007: Zac Posen

Zac Posen is a young Hollywood favorite with his 40s inspired tailoring and luscious evening gowns.

Zac Posen is a young Hollywood favorite with his 40s inspired tailoring and luscious evening gowns. This Fall collection showcased about half of what he does best, and the other half felt forced; an attempt to create something new that just looked awkward. I do feel he completed the task he set out to do: create a collection that is "clean, charming and (with) strong femininity."

I loved some of the sharp tailored suiting - a cropped olive green tuxedo jacket paired with a high waisted pocketed full skirt. Not much of a suit girl, this makes me want to be! There were plenty of party dresses and Oscar worthy gowns in fun colors like purple wine, green moss and burnt ochre and classic black. A couple of them had elaborate ruffles that looked a tad too underwater fantasy to me. A refreshing white knee length dress with the perfect amount of ruffles was a pleasant surprise. The worst piece from the collection: a confusing burgundy fur coat with ruffles - bleh.

The newest Victoria's Secret Very Sexy® For Her 2, $49, is a sexy, floral and fruity scent that embodies an effervescent smooth blend of: green apple, black plum, blackberry, lily of the valley, freesia, pink peony, white patchouli, jasmine and lotus.

This daring, and distinctive pink scent is strong - but it's definitely not one of those over the top aromas that will give you a painful and dulling headache. It has a very feminine smell to it that you will feel comfortable wearing both day and night.

A 2.5 oz of Eau de Parfum is $49, a 1.0 oz bottle is $37 and a 0.5 oz. bottle is $27. You can also buy the Sheer Sexy Body Spray for $22, body lotion for, $20 and body wash for $15. Enjoy you sexy thang!

Vera Wang

New York Fashion Week, Fall 2007: Vera Wang

Vera Wang's last couple of collections have been stellar.

Vera Wang's last couple of collections have been stellar. The woman with roots in bridal, has definitely proven she can deliver wearable ready-to-wear with the same elegance.

However, I was left a little depressed after viewing this somber collection. The fabrics were gorgeous: embroidered tulle, metallic brocade, and glossy duchesse satin, but the looks were a hodgepodge of asymmetry, ruffles and tailoring. Too many ideas usually makes for a sloppy presentation. The color palette was dull - the most interesting color was a burnt ochre satin, but this is also a difficult color for many to wear.

There was some residual layering from seasons past and silhouettes still managed to be slim. There were a few standout dresses, but they were so because they weren't cluttered with additional pieces and the (awful) netting that was draped over some looks. I did find some creativity in the styling of scarves; scarves worn as hoods and interesting tying techniques. Most looks were accompanied by long, scrunched leather gloves that made models look slightly reptilian.

Today's 'It' girl Sienna Miller plays the original 'It' girl Edie Sedgwick in the movie Factory Girl hitting theaters today. After getting the inside scoop from the film's costume designer John Dunn, I learned that Sienna's wardrobe was, not surprisingly, mostly vintage - except a pair of killer Jimmy Choo boots. As you can see, all these wardrobe pieces are still stylish as ever. As much as I would love to go back in time to snag some of these Fab pieces for myself, check out what I did find, ready and available to all of us. Oh and here's a tip: don't forget to wear a pair of sturdy black American Apparel jersey hot shorts, $12, if you dare wear Edie's signature black tights look. Stay tuned for a how-to on getting Edie/Sienna's beauty look from this movie!

Love It or Hate It

Kate Spade Fall 2007 Purple Metallic Handbag: Love It or Hate It?

I was happy to see less metallics on the Fall runways - but don't get me wrong, they will linger.

I was happy to see less metallics on the Fall runways - but don't get me wrong, they will linger. I've stated I'm over metallics but this Kate Spade purple metallic handbag that debuted yesterday caught my eye. Though it doesn't look like the most functional bag - with the thick ruffled handle and drawstring closure - I love the purple metallic! So, undecided. You?
