Fab Finding Follow Up: Cosmetology School Clothes!

A reader recently wrote in saying she is about to start at a trendy upper-class cosmetology school - assuming she is an avid reader of BellaSugar! - and needs a wardrobe, because they have a pretty strict dress code.

We learned she's on a budget, her bottoms have to be black (but can be anything - pants, skirts, etc.), her shirts can't have any open tummy, back, or show her armpits, and her shoes have to be black - but have no heels, open toes, or thick rubber soles.

I started you off with these Glitter Hair Clips, $3. To see all the cosmetology clothes fab finds go here.

Oh! Now, you can build outfits by creating a list of clothing items. We have everything you need to build outfits with and you can use your Fab Find bookmarks too. This is an even better way to put together an entire outfit when you are completing your Fab Finding missions.

Let's see what you all came up with!

Look #1, found by HuongStar is perfect because it's very budget-conscious, and even with all the dress code regulations, she found a way to put together an outfit with personality!

Fab Read: A Cultural History of Fashion in the Twentieth Century, From the Catwalk to the Sidewalk

It's never too late to brush up on your fashion ABCs.

It's never too late to brush up on your fashion ABCs. A Cultural History of Fashion in the Twentieth Century: From the Catwalk to the Sidewalk, by Bonnie English, $19, takes you on a journey through fashion in the last century. Focusing on fashion's ever-inspiring evolution, from fairy tales based on glass slippers to T-shirts being used to campaign against wars, this quick study should bring you up to date!

English also explores fashion's impact on culture from Haute Couture to Ready-To-Wear as well as the growth of the fashion's dark side: the black market of fakes and the anti-fashion of the punks. Though this book isn't available until August, you can pre-order it here!

Glitterati: Sabrina Dehoff

This glitterati gal started off working at French high-fashion companies Guy Laroche and Lanvin as a design assistant, but her dreams were elsewhere: Berliner Sabrina Dehoff wanted to make jewelry.

This glitterati gal started off working at French high-fashion companies Guy Laroche and Lanvin as a design assistant, but her dreams were elsewhere: Berliner Sabrina Dehoff wanted to make jewelry.

Since 2005, when she first started Sabrina Dehoff Accessories, Sabrina has come out with three collections: the Little Dreamers, which are fruit silhouettes in gold; the Little Helpers, a group of puffy leather hearts, guitars, panthers (my personal favorite), and mask necklaces; and, most recently, the Erratic Blocks from the Trip to the Moon. The animals in this collection are made of plastic detailed with gold.

Sabrina Dehoff necklaces can be purchased from Creatures of Comfort for $110-$294.

Look of the Day: Easy, Breezy, Beautiful

This look really goes to show you that even the simplest pieces put together the right way can look absolutely fabulous!

This look really goes to show you that even the simplest pieces put together the right way can look absolutely fabulous! Kiliki614 did a great job putting together an easy, breezy, beautiful look. The minimalism and washed-out colors she has going on remind me of something off the Calvin Klein runway!

Here's what she has on:

  • Top: Marc by Marc Jacobs
  • Shorts: BP Nordstrom
  • Shoes: Betsey Johnson

Congrats to Kiliki614!

Everyone else, submit your looks today and I just might feature you on FabSugar! If you live overseas and have a fab outfit to share, join the Overseas Fashionistas Group and to submit a Look in this group learn how to post a blog.

Celebrity Style: Joy Bryant

Well lookie here: actress Joy Bryant wore the J.Crew Talitha Patchwork Dress at a cocktail party at the Chateau Marmont in LA!

Well lookie here: actress Joy Bryant wore the J.Crew Talitha Patchwork Dress at a cocktail party at the Chateau Marmont in LA! She looks lovely and lively in her maxi dress. She got creative with her heather grey cardigan by tying it instead of buttoning it up - love it. And her pairing two necklaces together is super cool too. I couldn't see her shoes, so I gave her a cute pair I thought she might be wearing!

Fabworthy: Rosanna Kings Road Porcelain

I know this Rosanna Kings Road Porcelain, $30-$40, is named for kings but I go ga ga over anything with rich, golden crowns on it.

I know this Rosanna Kings Road Porcelain, $30-$40, is named for kings but I go ga ga over anything with rich, golden crowns on it. Does that mean I have a queen complex? Anywho, I bought these plates after I perused the recent Vivienne Westwood exhibit at the De Young museum in San Francisco. They aren't machine-washable but I love them as a wall display to be used as dessert plates for the most royal of guests.

Something you didn't know about me: I am a tea drinker, not a slave to coffee. I have a cup of Earl Grey, or English Breakfast, every morning and how lush would it be sipping tea out of a cup fit for a king queen?

Smocking

n. Type of needlework, gathering small bits of fabrics into decorative, colorful designs. Smocking is a centuries-old embroidery technique. Historic English smocking is a technique of sewing the embroidery over pleats already sewn into the fabric. North American smocking is an alternate technique where the pleats are gathered and formed in the fabric by the smocking stitchwork itself.
