Who Wore It Better? Nanette Lepore Dot Dress

Lauren Conrad wore Nanette Lepore's dot dress a couple weeks ago at "The Hills" after show, while singer Kat DeLuna sported it today at New York Fashion Week.

Lauren Conrad wore Nanette Lepore's dot dress a couple weeks ago at "The Hills" after show, while singer Kat DeLuna sported it today at New York Fashion Week. LC gives it class and Kat gives it sass. I vote for LC because the romantic ruffles and fun dots match her (sometimes) sweet personality. Who gets your vote?

New York Fashion Week, Spring 2008: 3.1 Phillip Lim

On a quiet Sunday models circled a sloped runway, showing the latest offerings from Phillip Lim.

On a quiet Sunday models circled a sloped runway, showing the latest offerings from Phillip Lim. The aesthetic was consummately Lim, which is partly what earns him such popularity: classic, wearable, colorful, with a twist of fashion-forward.

I always love his attention to detail. One quick glance at the accessories confirms how meticulous his eye is for the small things; pearls mounted on black braid to form a necklace joined with hardware, round-toed heels with eyelet detailing, and the result of his Birkenstock collaboration all made appearances. A LBD with fringe neckline and arm holes, a navy blue tuxedo jacket, and a red leather skirt already have spots on my Spring Most Wanted list.

Keep 'em coming, Phillip, and Marc Jacobs will have quite the contender...

On Our Radar: Fashion Targets Breast Cancer Initiative

Since 1994, when the initiative was founded, the Council of Fashion Designers of America's charitable interests have been with Fashion Targets Breast Cancer (FTBC).

Since 1994, when the initiative was founded, the Council of Fashion Designers of America's charitable interests have been with Fashion Targets Breast Cancer (FTBC). To raise awareness and money for its cause, the CFDA has partnered with Net-a-Porter to begin selling limited-edition FTBC items created by designers like Ralph Lauren, Rachel Roy, Oscar de la Renta, and Diane von Furstenberg.

Though the items will be sold throughout the year, the first available is a Ralph Lauren FTBC polo shirt, $75, exclusive to Net-a-Porter. The net proceeds of all sales will stay in the purchaser's country, whether in the U.S. or abroad.

A fun behind-the-scenes look at the shirt's photo shoot, with models Daria Werbowy, Lily Donaldson, Sasha Pivovarova, Du Juan, and Lily Cole, is up on the site as well. What a great idea for a great cause!

New York Fashion Week Trend Alert: Flow

"Let it flow, let yourself go, slow and low that is the tempo...".

"Let it flow, let yourself go, slow and low that is the tempo...". In the always wise words of The Beastie Boys, we can all look forward to letting it flow this Spring. Cascading fabrics like silk, cotton and loose knits have given way to ethereal, feminine and easy going clothes. Sleepwear and pajamas also seem to be influences. Hear me talk more about Flow live from Bryant Park! Whether it's just downright beautiful like at J.Mendel, sporty a la Cynthia Rowley or a sheer pleasure like BCBG's Spring offerings, fashion is showing a softer side. Are you ready to let yourself go?

New York Fashion Week, Spring 2008: Diane von Furstenberg

Diane von Furstenberg has a new direction for Spring: step away from her iconic wrap dresses and embrace flowing, colorful ones.

Diane von Furstenberg has a new direction for Spring: step away from her iconic wrap dresses and embrace flowing, colorful ones. Though a few safari-style wrap dresses crept onto the catwalk (it wouldn't be DVF without it), most pieces were loose maxi frocks and tee shirt dresses in bright and bold colors. There were some vintage-inspired skirt suits and voluminous tunics in amazing tropical prints. Fun!

A good mix of prints and solids came up, the former being geometric but not square. A couple of ombre dresses were shown in colors that resembled rainbow sherbet ice cream...quite delectable! Surprisingly, though flowy dresses dominated, the overall look was not super feminine. Cuban-style fedoras and funky prints gave the collection an air of masculinity that we've all been craving lately.

Celebrity Style: Victoria Beckham

Victoria Beckham arrived at LAX from the UK looking extra bright yesterday.

Victoria Beckham arrived at LAX from the UK looking extra bright yesterday. She matched her Pucci mini dress perfectly with her pink ostrich Birkin and purple sandals. Although I don't normally advocate a matchy matchy look, it's nice to see Posh looking so cheerful. Now it would be nice if she had cracked a smile to complete the look.

Givenchy's Medium Grained Nightingale, $1,280, has rich, buttery leather and a convenient detachable shoulder strap, making it ideal for gals who are always on the run. It has recently also been popular with mom-to-be Nicole Richie. Too bad our checking account balance is not nearly as abundant as Nicole's...

Fab Flash: Fashion Week at Tents for Two More Years

Despite recent rumors that the tents at Bryant Park were no longer going to serve as a location for New York Fashion Week, it has been reported that IMG Fashion, which owns Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, signed a contract to keep the event in Bryant Park through February 2010.

Despite recent rumors that the tents at Bryant Park were no longer going to serve as a location for New York Fashion Week, it has been reported that IMG Fashion, which owns Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, signed a contract to keep the event in Bryant Park through February 2010.

This is good news for longtime designers and editors who have been attending runway shows there for the past 16 years they have been held there. This gives IMG Fashion more time to continue to look at alternative spaces without having to rush. Whether the contract could be extended is currently unknown, but having the tents for two more years is good enough...for now.

DKNY

New York Fashion Week, Spring 2008: DKNY

Big floppy hats, high-waisted wide-legged pants paired with vests, maxi dresses, jumpsuits, and platform shoes: sounds like DKNY is experiencing some 70s nostalgia!

Big floppy hats, high-waisted wide-legged pants paired with vests, maxi dresses, jumpsuits, and platform shoes: sounds like DKNY is experiencing some 70s nostalgia!

Jane Chung, DKNY's designer, contrasted colors in the trademark way with big, bold leaf prints, stripes, and colorblocking to a palette of orange, gray, black, pink, olive, and beige. Wide sash obi belts nipped waists and some of the dresses went off-shoulder, giving a bohemian vibe. And it looks like the safari jacket is still hanging around.

Jeans with sheen I've been noticing on many runways appeared here as well, in black, but my favorites are the bold prints and crisp materials. I'm not sure how I feel about all the orange on black, but it works! Alas, DKNY has never been one to shy away from bold color combinations.
