Beyonce, One of the Best-Dressed Celeb of 2007?

People Magazine has voted Beyonce as "The Showstopper" on their best-dressed celebrity list of 2007.

People Magazine has voted Beyonce as "The Showstopper" on their best-dressed celebrity list of 2007. Sure, she gives it her all every single time she walks on that red carpet, but I'm not so sure she surpasses the more avant-garde stars out there (i.e. Diane Kruger, Cate Blanchett, Ashley Olsen, etc). Plus, have you seen her off the red carpet? I am dying to know: do you think Beyonce is one of the best-dressed celebs of 2007?

New York Fashion Week, Spring 2008: Betsey Johnson

It was prom night all over again at Betsey Johnson.

It was prom night all over again at Betsey Johnson. For those who had a bummer of a night the first time around, the Tent at Bryant Park was outfitted with glittering side tables and a disco ball. Betsey decided to show ultra feminine party dresses of tulle, ruffles and lame with flirty details like polka dots, pom poms and swirls. My favorite prom-inspired decade? Surprisingly, the 80s. This group was mostly in Betsey pink and black and had details like bows and corsets; it seemed the most wearable to me.

One thing is for sure: there is always a party at the Betsey Johnson show. LL Cool J and Tori Spelling, with hubby as prom date, were there and the models did their Betsey required flirty poses with the photogs at the end of the runway. The grand finale was, of course, Betsey and her cartwheels but this time she had granddaughter in tow. It was all very fun, very colorful and very Betsey!

The Bag To Have: Temperley 'Empire' Bag

Alice Temperley may be designing a collection for Target but that doesn't mean she doesn't tend to her high-end clients as well.

Alice Temperley may be designing a collection for Target but that doesn't mean she doesn't tend to her high-end clients as well.

This Temperley 'Empire' Bag, $1,775, is the perfect way to welcome Fall with open arms. It's part of the label's Autumn/Winter '07/'08 accessories collection and it has all the right features for a Bag to Have. It can act as a shoulder bag or tote, has two handy pockets in front and the signature turn lock. What I admire most is the contrasting colors as well as the antique gold metal framing. And unlike many overly logoed purses out there, it's under the radar, which makes it more mysteriously appealing.

Celebrity Style

Celebrity Style: Jessica Alba

While everybody else showed up to the In Style Magazine and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association Toronto International Film Festival Party in their best duds, Jessica Alba came in jeans and a t-shirt.

While everybody else showed up to the In Style Magazine and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association Toronto International Film Festival Party in their best duds, Jessica Alba came in jeans and a t-shirt. The actress is super hip in her Rolling Stones tee and leather jacket. True, the rocker look has been killed to death in Hollywood, but Jessica looks surprisingly fresh. I think she's found her forte - edgy-cum-girly!

New York Fashion Week, Spring 2008: Zac Posen

Zac Posen and the Little House on the Prairie?

Zac Posen and the Little House on the Prairie? Now that's a pair I never expected. Zac and Gwyneth? Sure. Zac and Demi? Absolutely. But for Spring, Mr. Posen's inspiration is the country gal - an odd choice, since he's a through and through New Yorker.

Posen sent ruffled-sleeve white prairie dresses, straw hats, and dresses decorated with rhinestone bundles of wheat down the runway. And there were plenty of earth tones: sepia, golden brown, beige. But my favorite were the big poofy watercolored dresses, each representing a different type of cloud: Nimbus, Cirrus, Cumulus...just beautiful, and quite befitting of what they were meant to represent.

There's no doubt about it: Zac's strength lies in his eveningwear. So take notes, you'll definitely be seeing some of these dresses again on the red carpet. Who would dare wear this sexy, slit black number?!

Trend Alert

New York Fashion Week Trend Alert: Quirk

I have come to realize that the trends are really all over the map for Spring.

I have come to realize that the trends are really all over the map for Spring. Which is cool, because this means we'll have variety and designers are doing their own thing, whether the outcome is good or bad. One direction a lot of designers did go was quirky. Whether they went the art route, like at Malandrino, the mad route, like at Marc Jacobs, or stepped slightly out of their comfort zone, like at Rebecca Taylor, quirk is the way of the Spring.

Look of the Day: Mix It Up

I am a hardcore advocate of fusing high and low fashion.

I am a hardcore advocate of fusing high and low fashion. That's why ohohmommio's look appealed to me. Her houndstooth dress and pumps are low, while that red Prada bag is high. Way to mix it up!

Here's what she's sporting:

  • Dress: Dillards
  • Shoes:Target
  • Bag:Prada

Congrats to ohohmommio!

Marc Jacobs

New York Fashion Week, Spring 2008: Marc by Marc Jacobs

Leave it to Marc to design a collection that stands out from the gaggle of ultra-feminine New York Fashion Week pieces.

Leave it to Marc to design a collection that stands out from the gaggle of ultra-feminine New York Fashion Week pieces. You'll find no flowy and frilly here. What you will find are tailored pant suits, A-line dresses, military coats, pleats, lace, boxy blazers, high-waisted trousers, plaid and hats...lots and lots of hats.

But wait! Doesn't this all remind you of his Le Smoking Fall Marc Jacobs collection? The primary colors, military references and plethora of hats? I say yay, for those of us who loved it (present!) but could never afford it. Now, there's hope.

Commencing, there were lots of brights, mostly in the form of bold Marc red. Though it's hard to categorize the Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring girl, one thing is for certain: she's a world-traveler, ready with suitcase and class!
