Designer Spotlight: Steinunn

She cut her teeth at Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Gucci, and was design director at La Perla - the girl has some experience under her belt! Now, Icelandic designer Steinunn Sigurðar has branched out to do her own thing with her new eponymously-named line, Steinunn, which I got a chance to check out while I was in New York for fashion week!

The lady definitely has an affinity for shades of gray and black, triangular puckered detailing and bold ruffles. She cites her inspiration for her Spring 2008 collection as the volcanic landscape of Iceland and the sky and sea melting together on the horizon, which she translated into pretty gauzy ruffled tops, taffeta dresses, and bow-embellished skirts. It's very chic, feminine, but with a dark side, and a couple of Vogue editors were checking it out while I was there, if that's any indication...

Baby

Simply Fab: Kate Spade Pippin Park Three Piece Feeding Set

Babies don't really care what plate or bowl they eat from but their stylish mommies do!

Babies don't really care what plate or bowl they eat from but their stylish mommies do! This Kate Spade Pippin Park 3 Piece Feeding Set, $75, caught my attention because it's cutely innocent and quirky. These days kids are growing up so fast, so why not cherish their childhood by giving them age-appropriate things with sheep, bunnies and carrots on them? Plus, the bone china is dishwasher safe, which is always a plus when your hands are full with dishes and babies!

Tory Burch

New York Fashion Week, Spring 2008: Tory Burch

Burch devotees, fashion press, the NY social scene and Lance Armstrong all gathered at Christie's auction house to see Tory Burch's Spring offerings.

Burch devotees, fashion press, the NY social scene and Lance Armstrong all gathered at Christie's auction house to see Tory Burch's Spring offerings.

In a spotlighted, champagne flowing room, groups of models circled a platform while onlookers schmoozed and perused. Burch fans will rejoice for her signature tunics, cardigans and retro prints were abundant - some tribal prints in particular were super fun. Jeweled and beaded necklines and patent adorned handbags were Burch bonuses. Lovers of the cult Prima Reva ballerina flats will have something to look forward to: metallic T-strap flats and gladiators with her round gold emblem atop as well as colorblocked versions of the signature flat.

WASP style has indeed gotten a makeover!

Pink

How Would YOU Wear It? Mariah Carey

Let's be frank: it was only a matter of time until Mariah Carey ended up on How Would You Wear It?

Let's be frank: it was only a matter of time until Mariah Carey ended up on How Would You Wear It? Her dresses are too often too tight and matchy matchy; this look at the Jury Duty Social Awareness stamp unveiling is a perfect example. Yes, pink is a hot color right now, but she killed it.

If I were Mariah, I would have first either ditched the pink belt or the cardigan - either would have nipped the pink overdo in the bud. Next, I would have taken off the sunglasses, as it makes her look cheesy. And what a difference a two-inch longer hemline would have made, taking it from trashy to classy. Lastly, although those Louboutin peep toe pumps are gorgeous, I would have attempted another designer because the signature red sole clashes with the pink.

How would YOU wear it?

Trend Alert

New York Fashion Week Trend Alert: High & Waisted

Many have been on the fence about this trend, but if you haven't embraced it yet, Fab friends, it is time to get High & Waisted.

Many have been on the fence about this trend, but if you haven't embraced it yet, Fab friends, it is time to get High & Waisted. I am a fan of the high waist - it can really accentuate a woman's figure - but I don't like overly dramatic high waists. A more conservative version for me please. Come Spring, there's high waists galore so hopefully you'll find your niche. To prepare yourself, check out some bright high waists at Phillip Lim, some quirky ones at Alice + Olivia and some sporty ones a la Cynthia Rowley.

Fab Finding

Come Fab Finding With Me: Off to London...Fashion Week!

I am so exhausted from New York Fashion Week so I sadly can't attend London Fashion Week.

I am so exhausted from New York Fashion Week so I sadly can't attend London Fashion Week. But a girl can dream! Imagine Fab is flying overseas to catch runway shows by Giles, Luella Bartley, Aquascutum and the like.

What would I wear? Remember that London Fashion Week is more avant-garde and funky than New York Fashion Week. So ladies, think outside the box!

I will start you off with these Anthropologie Prim & Proper Wedges, $178, because they're off the beaten path and look comfy. Come back and tell me when your Fab Finds are up and tag them with London Fashion Week.

Oh! Now, you can build outfits by creating a list of clothing items. We have everything you need to build outfits with and you can use your Fab Find bookmarks too. This is an even better way to put together an entire outfit when you are completing your Fab Finding missions.

Celebrity Style: Kate Bosworth

What would we do without Kate Bosworth these days?

What would we do without Kate Bosworth these days? She's been providing us with great outfit inspirations, from menswear-inspired chic to laid-back in stripes. Here, while out with her boyfriend in NYC, Kate looks sunny and bright. Check out that gorgeous art piece, er Marc Jacobs bag, dangling from her arm, and those darling Chloe shades. While most dub red and yellow together McDonald's-style, somehow Kate pulls it off; shear perfection if you ask me!

Love It or Hate It

New York Fashion Week Spring 2008, Marc by Marc Jacobs Legos: Love It or Hate It?

I loved the Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring collection, but when I was taking another look, I noticed something I hadn't seen the first time around: Lego accessories!

I loved the Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring collection, but when I was taking another look, I noticed something I hadn't seen the first time around: Lego accessories!

Little colorful blocks and triangles made from Legos decorated belts and headbands. They added color, a youthful vibe, and remind me of those funky Fall Balenciaga heels. However, I don't know if I would done this off the runway - it rings of runway-only accessory to me. What about you?

Jennifer Lopez

New York Fashion Week, Spring 2008: JustSweet by Jennifer Lopez

Together with head designer Sophie Na, J.

Together with head designer Sophie Na, J. Lo produced a collection dominated by cute, casual minidresses for her new contemporary line, JustSweet. The line, which debuts in stores in March, is priced from $49-$99, so it's much more affordable than your typical catwalk fare.

The runway was bright with colors like "pixie dust," "magic mint," and "pirate pink," to go along with the fantastical inspiration - this was apparent on faces too. Colorful minidresses, bronze metallic cardigans, one shoulder looks, and white smocks reflected the youthful flair central to the look - part hippy, part funk.

Overall, the collection was a little hit and miss, but it was refreshing to watch J. Lo walk out and take her bow at the end of the show decked out in a JustSweet smock and shoes. After all, why design a line if you won't even wear it yourself? What do you all think of JustSweet?!
