The thing that struck me the most while watching all of the ladies on the red carpet at the MTV Video Music Awards this evening was that everyone was pretty darn unique. Most of the ladies looked fabulous, but not a lot of obvious trends emerged, which I found quite refreshing. We had everything from Mary J. Blige in her form-fitting floor length black gown to a blonde Nelly Furtado in a satin pantsuit, but the four ladies below especially stood out. I love Hayden Panettiere's bright blue satin number, Rihanna's floor-length fuchsia gown, Jennifer Garner's sexy metallic frock and Ashlee Simpson's fresh off the runway BCBG LBD. Which was your favorite?

I know I'm supposed to comment about red-carpet fashions but I must start with Paris Hilton's hair. Is she 26 or 56? Don't get me wrong, I love her short 'do when it's straight but this wavy look is all wrong. Her Dolce & Gabbana dress is foxy, but nothing we haven't seen before. Love it or hate it?

I absolutely love seeing red-carpet transformations and what a transformation Jennifer Garner has made here at the VMAs! Mrs. Ben Affleck's everything looks flawless - her hair, her drop earrings, her elegant dress, her metallic shoes. Brava! Do you share my enthusiasm?

Although I barely recognize her, I am digging Ashlee Simpson's corseted dress hot off the BCBG runway. I also see that she is still rocking black nail polish on her fingers and toes. What do you think?

Who knew a black dress could be so complicated? Rosario Dawson's mermaid-like dress has way too much going on - a patch of sequins at the side, leather piping, a tie-waist belt. Plus, her pointy pumps are a tad outdated, no? If it makes Rosario fans feel any better, her hair and makeup looks spot-on! Thoughts?

Hayden Panettiere's look at the MTV Video Music Awards has got me conflicted. First off, we can't see the front of the dress because her hair is covering it. I do think the color and length of the frock are fun but her clear wedges are throwing me off. Do you concur?
