Milan Fashion Week

Milan Fashion Week, Spring 2008: Versace

Donatella has struck again!

Donatella has struck again! But this time, with a softer force. While the runway oozed with the usual Versace sex appeal, things were a bit more buttoned up, a bit softer, a bit safe.

With a slight safari vibe, daytime separates were very wearable with pocketed shorts, trousers and outerwear. Fabrics of choice were silk and slick leather — again, sexy. While bold and sometimes baby solids ruled, an aqua-infused floral print broke up the monochrome. Nevertheless, the Versace signatures — asymmetrical shapes, draping and cut outs — sexed up sweet gowns.

You know cropped trousers are a Spring favorite when even Versace is doing them. But here, Donatella manages to make even those appear, you guessed it, sexy.

Simply Fab: Purse Organizer Extraordinaire

This Joey Junior Purse Mate Purse Organizer, $20 for leather; $25 for suede, is definitely worth checking out, especially if you're a slave to your purse like I am.

This Joey Junior Purse Mate Purse Organizer, $20 for leather; $25 for suede, is definitely worth checking out, especially if you're a slave to your purse like I am. No matter how much of a clean freak you are, things tend to get lost in a large bag. That's where this purse organizer comes in handy. Separate your goods in pockets, as shown, and watch how easy it'll be to find your cell phone the next time it rings.

If you're into small bags and don't have a lot of stuff, the Mini Purse Organizer, $15, is another option.

Glitterati: Lisa Levine

Jewelry designer Lisa Levine is a traveling woman.

Jewelry designer Lisa Levine is a traveling woman. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she discovered her talent for invention and decoration at a very young age. She studied at Parsons School of Design in New York City, but left the program to go to Mexico to fulfill her need for foreign inspiration. She eventually returned to the U.S., specifically to Oakland, California, to complete her training at the California College of Arts and Crafts. And now she's back in NYC churning out more unique earrings, necklaces, bracelets and pins.

Lisa draws inspirations for her seven collections from aquatic life and the geometry of architecture to the symbolic force of chains. Her designs aren't cheap ($100 and up for earrings; up to $800 for a necklace) but they are made for gals who crave funkiness.

Celebrity Style: Fergie

On her way to the recording studio yesterday, Fergie looked surprisingly understated.

On her way to the recording studio yesterday, Fergie looked surprisingly understated. Notice I didn't say simple, just understated by her usually frilly standards. I adore the white dotted top and the peek-a-boo effect with the black cuffed shorts. To top it off, those Jeffrey Campbell studded sandals are simply irresistible. Nice work, Fergs!

Donatella Versace's niece, 25-year-old Francesca Versace, is presenting her first collection during Paris Fashion Week as "Francesca V."

Her initial offering is a capsule collection for the Singapore-based label All Dressed Up. Francesca is said to be cultivating a sleek signature style, so expect pleated silk necklines, hems inspired by the folds of a turban, accents of gold lurex, all hinting at a discreet, modern glamour.

Anyone with the Versace last name is guaranteed to generate a lot of buzz, and Francesca trained at the well-respected design school Central Saint Martins (John Galliano, Alexander McQueen, and Stella McCartney are all graduates), so keep your eye on this one!

Dolce and Gabbana

Milan Fashion Week, Spring 2008: Dolce & Gabbana

A common theme that I'm finding with Milan Fashion Week is that designers, like Roberto Cavalli, are expanding their horizons and delving into new territories.

A common theme that I'm finding with Milan Fashion Week is that designers, like Roberto Cavalli, are expanding their horizons and delving into new territories. Such is the case for Dolce & Gabbana's Spring collection.

Dolce ads are vulgar and highly sexual, so it was surprising to see that their latest collection is filled with modest, almost matronly pieces. There are a bevy of full skirts, button down blouses, boat neck dress (a la Audrey Hepburn), tulip dresses, and lots of drama-filled, Zac Posen-esque gowns with voluminous trains and lots of ruching. The hues were also subtle, for Dolce, — black, white, green, mustard yellow, purple — with bouts of fuchsia and red.

What stood out is the upholstery-like patterns found on some of the dresses. They're vintage-inspired, regal and textured. Rather un-Dolce & Gabbana but very much appreciated.

Fab Finding

Come Fab Finding With Me: Ooh la la, Paris Fashion Week

Picture this: life is fabulous, and I'm about to board a plane to a little place called Paris for the fashion week to end all fashion weeks.

Picture this: life is fabulous, and I'm about to board a plane to a little place called Paris for the fashion week to end all fashion weeks. It's not actually happening, but a girl can dream, right?

I need a wardrobe to floor those Frenchie fashionistas - it's got to be class-act! Parisian women like their classic staples - the Chanel quilted bag, the well-cut pea coat...but they also like to jazz it up with unexpected pieces. Most importantly, they always look tres chic.

I'll start you off with this Timmy Woods Eiffel Tower Bag, $375, because it's perfect for the occasion, and it's just like the bag Carrie holds in the "Sex and the City" movie! Come back and tell me when your Fab Finds are up and tag them with Paris FW.

Oh! Now, you can build outfits by creating a list of clothing items. We have everything you need to build outfits with and you can use your Fab Find bookmarks too. This is an even better way to put together an entire outfit when you are completing your Fab Finding missions.

Love It or Hate It

Milan Fashion Week Spring 2008, Marni: Love It or Hate It?

Regardless to what the reviews say, I always have a special place in my heart for Marni.

Regardless to what the reviews say, I always have a special place in my heart for Marni. But yes, when surveying this eclectic look, I can be objective. The stiff white top is a little boxy for my taste, but the frilly navy undercarriage is quite pretty and unexpected. The jury's still out on those black satin clodhoppers...do you have a verdict?
