Last week I told you a friend of mine is playing host to her boyfriend's mom who is coming to town. This isn't the first time they're meeting, but she still wants to be the hostess with the mostess and look her best. She's asked me to help put together an outfit for a casual lunch. Of course, I asked for your assistance as well. She wanted to look demure and comfortable without sacrificing her love of fashion.

I like bearing some skin. Being the California girl that I am, when it's time to bundle up I sometimes replace a flash of skin with a flash of flair. Easing into party season, I've been looking for ways to add individuality to last season's clothes. When I came across this Arden B Faceted Double Brooch ($28), I was not only stopped by the faceted teal jewels but the silver chain connector — it's so Vivienne Westwood, is it not? This would be equally fun on a heather gray tee and a fancy frock. I would so do the brooch with this.
We haven't seen Scarlett on a red carpet in a while, so this stunning ensemble was a pleasant surprise. Scarlett knows what works for her bodacious body,and Dolce & Gabbana it is. This ivory bustier frock is positively lovely, and her two-tone Louboutin satin pumps pique interest. Topped off with sparkling Van Cleef & Arpels diamonds, I'm sure her hubbie Ryan was in lust all over again.
