New York Fashion Week, Fall 2008: Shipley & Halmos

The former designers of Trovata debuted their first collection for Shipley & Palmos at New York Fashion Week, and I for one was impressed.

The former designers of Trovata debuted their first collection for Shipley & Palmos at New York Fashion Week, and I for one was impressed.

Highly wearable and modern, these well-tailored pieces feel fresh. At a time when so many designers don't know when to simplify their creations — I'm looking at you Project Runway contenders! — these designs, for men and women, seem just right.

Smart jackets, tulip skirts, and everyday blouses walked through a surreal door stage. A couple colors, plum and canary yellow, provided some pop, while an ivory and black paisley print was whimsy. The simple dresses were the perfect backdrop for some standout jewels. I'm keeping my eyes on these California boys . . .

Celebrity Style: Kate Hudson

Every now and again an all-black outfit appears that rouses the senses more than a colorful one does.

Every now and again an all-black outfit appears that rouses the senses more than a colorful one does. Kate Hudson had that effect on me in her black dress with thumb holes, double-breasted blazer, tights, and black pumps. Her blonde hair and hoop earrings are the perfect contrast to her look. If you're in the mood for all black, copy Kate!

Who's Hotter: Will Ferrell or Heidi Klum?

Sports Illustrated's annual swimsuit issue hits newsstands today, and inside you'll find more than just scantily-clad swimsuit models: There's a hilarious spread with Will Ferrell and a swimsuit-clad Heidi Klum, of course.

Sports Illustrated's annual swimsuit issue hits newsstands today, and inside you'll find more than just scantily-clad swimsuit models: There's a hilarious spread with Will Ferrell and a swimsuit-clad Heidi Klum, of course. Will is rocking the '70s afro in character from his new movie, Semi-Pro, and Heidi . . . well, she looks like Heidi. The two get cheeky together, with Will biting on Heidi's toes, and the two playing a little one-on-one basketball. However, I think the real burning question is: Who steals the show?

Teddy

Decorative lingerie with an all-in-one camisole-like top and tap panty. Unlike a bodysuit, it is typically looser and more sheer, and may be designed to slip off from the shoulders, rather than to open at the crotch. The teddy is normally worn for the seductive look, rather than practical reasons.

This Valentine's Day, entice your lovah with this Victoria's Secret Peek-a-Boo Teddy ($48).

Fab Ad: Diane von Furstenberg Spring '08

For her first major ad campaign since relaunching her label a decade ago, Diane von Furstenberg wanted something special.

For her first major ad campaign since relaunching her label a decade ago, Diane von Furstenberg wanted something special.

She hand-picked French artist François-Marie Banier to photograph Natalia Vodianova on the streets of Paris on a rainy day, and then in a Manhattan studio. They went for a carefree approach: no fashion stylist, no hair stylist, no make-up artist — just Natalia picking out her own clothes and flaunting them as she knows best. Banier then took the black and white images, added dashes of color and writing in his signature style.

And voila — DVF's first ad campaign— do you dig it?
