New York Fashion Week, Fall 2008: Preen

British import Preen is always a fun show, and it's definitely a show for the fashion people — no celebrities were in sight, save a few New York socialites.

British import Preen is always a fun show, and it's definitely a show for the fashion people — no celebrities were in sight, save a few New York socialites.

It's no wonder the fashionistas adore Preen: satin jumpsuits, sequined dresses, and cocoon coats populated the runway in a spectrum of ivory, gray, blue, and bluer. There were a few odd details thrown into the mix like high-waisted pleated pants, leather and shearling jackets, and '80s-style plastic rings, but all in all, a strong outing — especially in the dress arena.

One of the best things about the collection? The runway shoes are affordable . . . they were made by Topshop.

Whose Herve Leger Is Most Fab?

What does one wear when supporting Max Azria's first collection for Herve Leger?

What does one wear when supporting Max Azria's first collection for Herve Leger? Why, Herve Leger by Max Azria of course! That's precisely what Christina Milian, Sophia Bush, Joy Bryant, Mandy Moore, Leigh Lezark, and a bevy of other stars did during the Fall '08 show. The common denominator is the skin-tight fabric synonymous with Herve Leger. Still, each lady chose the dress that matches their personal style. Christina went for sexy, Sophia did sophisticated, Joy tried flirty, Mandy went smoky, and Leigh chose edgy. Whose Herve Leger is most fab?

New York Fashion Week, Fall 2008: Tracy Reese

Tracy Reese's Fall '08 collection made me wander into a dreamland.

Tracy Reese's Fall '08 collection made me wander into a dreamland. Icy blues and greys opened up the show in the form of one-shoulder chiffon frocks, voluminous skirts, and carefree dresses. But just as I was comfortably floating on clouds, Reese took me to a whole new and more vibrant world; one with lots of sequins, metallics, berets, bold geometric prints, bright orange skirt suits, plaids, stripes, ruffles, and all shades of red. The way I see it, if a refined French girl and a punky plaid-loving chick formed a friendship based on fashion, then Reese's collection would be her wonderfully fun wardrobe.

Fab Photos of the Week

We love pretty photos, but really, what's not to love? The saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words, but we say, a Fab picture is priceless. In an effort to showcase our amazing photos that get overlooked, we present you with a slideshow of the Fab Photos of the Week. It's the way a top model poses, an accessory gleams, an ad comes to life. It's the way a photographer captures the moment.

New York Fashion Week, Fall 2008: Lela Rose

It was sheer madness at Lela Rose.

It was sheer madness at Lela Rose. Girlie blouses, and sleeves and necklines of dresses were see-through for subtle sexiness.

But that's not even half of what Rose offered up. You name it, this collection had: colored anoraks, metallic tulip skirts, sequin tops and skirts, wide-leg pants, skinny pants, and dresses galore: tiered, taffeta, one-shoulder, chiffon, and one ruffled garnet colored dress that looked slightly Lanvin. That means we're closer to being able to afford the dramatic party frocks we all loved for Spring.

Hallelujah for some color on the catwalk. Teal, mustard, red, metallic blue and burgundy all had their place in the show. Rose always manages to create uptown pieces that are far from stuffy and she's accomplished this yet again.

New York Fashion Week, Fall 2008: Sass & Bide

Once in a while a runway show brings a smile to my face.

Once in a while a runway show brings a smile to my face. Sass & Bide took a sad story and turned it into fruit punch with their return to the runway Fall collection. The show was dedicated to a friend of theirs who passed away from cancer. "Rainbows for Kate” is a celebration of life, love, hope and happiness.

Rainbows translated into sequins, polka dots, ruffles, ribbons, plaid and super elaborate albeit fabulous head pieces. Layered stockings, fierce black heels and black undertones kept the collection from being overly frilly. Though the varicolored textures — also including a harlequin sequin print — were a tad circus-like, they were fun and unique. It's nice to see something daring at New York fashion week, and it's nice to witness such rich inspiration.
