As you've noticed, this Spring's prints are more vibrant and multidimensional than ever. Though part of it has to do with aesthetics, some of it is aimed at counterfeiters.

"One of the main reasons we have chosen to explore two-dimensional design and surface through embroidery is that it is very difficult to copy. The labor involved is difficult and time-consuming, which makes mass producing and/or copying impossible," said Jack McCollough of Proenza Schouler in WWD. Dolce & Gabbana (left) designer Stefano Gabbana added: "Though our creativity is never influenced by counterfeiters, whoever wants to copy this collection is in for a tough time."

FABTV: En Vogue "Runaway Love"

Here's another feel-good video from the funky divas.

Here's another feel-good video from the funky divas. Last weekend I caught Thelma and Louise on TV, and it reminded me how much fun road trips with the girls are. Thelma and Louise's adventure didn't have a happy ending, but all mine have — and it looks like En Vogue had a grand time. Wearing variations or white, ivory, and denim, the ladies sing of runaway love in their definitive soulful style. The boxers under the baggy jeans look has since retired (thank god), but a knit beret is always in style. Things get steamier at the Havana-feeling nightclub and then the finale shot of the divas from the back, topless, in flowing pants. I wish these Fab ladies were still in show biz . . .

Paris Fashion Week, Fall 2008: Giambattista Valli

The river runneth red at Giambattista Valli.

The river runneth red at Giambattista Valli. Blood red. Billowing red evening gowns, protruding red crepe necklines, toweringly high red heels, and even a red fox fur cocoon coat were all flowing. When it wasn't red, it was white, or black, or ivory — with lots of protuberances. Tufts of fox fur hang from the back of an otherwise simple ivory sheath. Architectural ruffles, poufs, and anemone-like brooches embellish other notable pieces.

The collection as a whole was a play on volume; and when I say volume, I mean Giambattista really turned up the dial. There was nary a piece in sight without the addition of something bigger . . . but better? Well, I'll leave that verdict up to you.
