Alexander McQueen

Where There's Smoke, There's McQueen

As I look out the window to a faintly smoky-skied San Francisco, this Alexander McQueen motif from his Resort collection seems very relevant.

As I look out the window to a faintly smoky-skied San Francisco, this Alexander McQueen motif from his Resort collection seems very relevant. In case you didn't hear, there were wildfires in Northern California recently, and the smoke spread to other parts of the state. Freaky? A little. When I first saw this wisp of a print, I had to zoom in. What is that?!

Many see McQueen as a portent in the fashion world, and, yes, he is pretty dope. He has always had his own aesthetic; slightly dark, immensely feminine, completely captivating. This moody motif actually evolved from a pattern on trenchcoats, to tromp l'oeil embroidery on shirts and pants, to a print on T-shirts and an LBD. We see prints on clothes day in and day out, but this one is a stand-out. The smoking and fashion debate continues; what about in this case? Can you make an exception? (Yes)

Life's a Beach: Cover Up in Style

No matter how hard your abs are or how toned your bum is, you have to cover up a bit before you hit the waves.

No matter how hard your abs are or how toned your bum is, you have to cover up a bit before you hit the waves. OK, I suppose you don't have to, but with all the exotic coverups out there, why not have an outfit change? Blake Lively even covered up with a Tory Burch tunic on the set of Gossip Girl. Coverups are not limited to tunics though. You can wear a romper, sarong, sundress, or tank top. Choose the one that suits your style and give your audience something — your hot bikini bod! — to look forward to.

Little Lo from The Hills is all grown up — and graduated from UCLA. Congrats girl! She celebrated in typical Hills style with a big to-do at Prive in Las Vegas. Her form-fitting color block dress is Herve Leger-esque but much more affordable and much less trendy being BCBG; it hugs her in all the right places and she looks happy to be in it. Minimal silver jewelry and sky-high Loubs finish off her minimal party look.

Who Wore It Better? White Yoana Baraschi Origami Sundress

While sister Nicky opted to wear a fun Tibi dress to the The Good Life photograph event, Paris Hilton chose to show up in head-to-toe white.

While sister Nicky opted to wear a fun Tibi dress to the The Good Life photograph event, Paris Hilton chose to show up in head-to-toe white. In fact, she wore the same origami-detailed Yoana Baraschi dress that Halle Berry wore last week while running errands in LA. Halle went the more casual route and chose to mix it up by wearing red flip-flops and an ivory Versace bag. Which look are you digging more — Halle's casual femme or Paris's matchy white on white?

2008 Fall Couture: Christian Dior

The couture shows have begun in Paris.

The couture shows have begun in Paris. Now that we've seen the relaxed resort collections, I'm ready for drama, drama, and more drama. John Galliano's theatrics touched every aspect of his production: the clothes, the shoes, the makeup, the models, the celebrities. While last year brought bright, bold hues such as red, purple, and fuchsia, this year's palette was rather tame in comparison.
Pastel pinks, greens, yellows, and lilacs made their way onto ever-dramatic silhouettes. Origami shapes, crochet, ruffles, tulle, pleats, chiffon, and sequins are all part of this year's outstanding couture cast. While the colors are subdued, the footwear is anything but. Feminine clothes are contrasted by dangerous caged platforms with metallic triangle heels. Another fitting accessory is a '20s-style cloche hat in leopard, leather, and studs. As well, protruding corset belts have taken on new meanings. Be mistaken not; this collection may utilize pastels, but it's not fit for the chipper Church-goer. Nay.

Fab Flash: LVMH Wins Over eBay in Counterfeit Goods Trial

Don't mess with fashion giant LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton.

Don't mess with fashion giant LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton.

After a two-year trial, a French court ordered eBay to pay up for selling counterfeit items on its online auction site and for selling genuine goods outside LVMH's retail channels. The penalty was a whopping 40 million euros, or $63.2 million at the current exchange rate.

This all came about when prestigious brands including Louis Vuitton, Givenchy, Fendi, Emilio Pucci, and Marc Jacobs had complained about the sale of knockoff bags and clothes on eBay.

Pierre Godet, an adviser to LVMH Chairman and CEO Bernard Arnault, said the Paris court's decision was, ''an answer to a particularly serious question, on whether the Internet is a free-for-all for the most hateful, parasitic practices.'' In rebuttal, eBay said that LVMH is trying to crack down on Internet auctions merely because it is uncomfortable with the business model, which tends to cut out the middleman.

Sounds like both parties are still heated, but for now, the courtroom has cooled.

The Hilton clan spent an evening together at the "The Good Life" photographs event in LA. Per usual, Nicky outshined the other Hilton women in a whimsical Tibi V-strap mini dress and silver Louboutins. The butterfly and fan art nouveau design gives the frock a modern vintage feel. For a touch of glam, Nicky incorporated diamond hoop earrings and a diamond bangle.
