Handbag Designer Spotlight: Bird

If the name Liz Carey sounds familiar to you, it's probably because you've seen the model/actress walking the runways of Alexander McQueen or Versace.

If the name Liz Carey sounds familiar to you, it's probably because you've seen the model/actress walking the runways of Alexander McQueen or Versace. Or maybe you caught a glimpse of her in the movies Spanglish or The 40-Year-Old Virgin. Now fast-forward. Liz has taken a new role — handbag designer — and it looks like she's found her niche.

Her handbag collection, dubbed Bird, is all about the exotic. Taking pieces from her worldly travels, the budding designer has created a line filled with personality and culture. From ostrich to snakeskin to Guatemalan wedding shirts, Liz's rich-hippie aesthetic had me — and Lake Bell, and Rachel Bilson — at hello. Oh yeah, and if you're wondering why Liz named her collection Bird, it's because the word also means "girl" in British slang.

Fabworthy: Jeffrey Campbell Black Patent Leather Platforms

Many of you loved the shoes I wore to a recent wedding so I had to share the details.

Many of you loved the shoes I wore to a recent wedding so I had to share the details. They are the very reason I grew to love the silk ruffle-neck dress I ordered a while ago. I had tried the dress on with countless other shoes but nothing was making sense. As soon as I tried it with these Jeffrey Campbell Marly Black Patent Leather Platforms ($110), something clicked; they breathed life to my dress, sort of like how Gwyneth Paltrow's powerful shoes complemented her awesome Iron Man premiere dresses. Plus, they were amazing to me all night. Nary a scratch or blister, nada. If I had more thumbs, I'd give them five thumbs up.

Fab Redux: Feather Topper

This Vintage Feather Headband Hat ($35) may look a wee strange, but strange is the name of the fashion game lately.

This Vintage Feather Headband Hat ($35) may look a wee strange, but strange is the name of the fashion game lately. Feathers are still going strong — just ask Rihanna — but it's such a novel, expensive adornment. Wearing this feather topper will certainly set you apart from the crowd. The jet black feathers are also subtle enough you won't look like you're getting attacked by a bird, although Tippi Hedren made it look so stylish.

Back to School

Back to Cool: Dazed and Confused

I remember when I saw Dazed and Confused in the theater circa 1993 (15 years ago!) — I wanted to see it again, and again, and again.

I remember when I saw Dazed and Confused in the theater circa 1993 (15 years ago!) — I wanted to see it again, and again, and again. And, I have. It's probably one of my most worn out DVDs. I love the '70s and this Richard Linklater-directed film is a fun trip. The guys are hot, the girls are gorgeous, the music is groovy, and the cars are cool. All the story lines are exciting and the senior bitches are unforgettable. (One of my favorite Parker Posey roles, ever.) If all you want is a slow ride and to take it easy, soak up this not-too-cool-for-school wardrobe.

Fab Flash: Janet Jackson's Lingerie Revealed

R&B diva Janet Jackson recently announced she's getting cheeky with a new lingerie collection and the proof is here.

R&B diva Janet Jackson recently announced she's getting cheeky with a new lingerie collection and the proof is here. Pleasure Principle, named after a hit single off the singer's 1986 Control album, is set to land in stores by the end of this year or early 2009. The collection is the brainchild of Jackson and the Australian lingerie designer behind Dr. Rey's Shapewear line, Bruno Schiavi (pictured).

The 18-piece bra and underwear collection mostly consists of lace and satins in sizes ranging from 32A to 44G. Prices are affordable at under $40 for each piece. So why lingerie? “It’s something for every woman, and I truly do mean that. It makes you feel sexy,” Jackson said. I couldn't agree more.

Lo may be the villain of season four and she looks good playing the part.

Lo may be the villain of season four and she looks good playing the part. The graphic black and white tank is perfect for the end of Summer, and the long purple tank really makes her eyes shine. That's two for two on the fashion front. Way to go, Lo.

Lauren looked lovely, as usual, in the premiere episode of The Hills. In this picture the temperature may be rising, but Lauren looks very cool, California cool to be exact. She paired her denim daisy dukes with an embroidered navy tank and accessorized the ensemble to perfection. The big sunglasses and multiple necklaces and bangles prove that this girl can put a look together. No surprise there.

Heidi was wearing the designer of the moment, Herve Leger, to last night's The Hills premiere party. And she wore it well. The colors suited her skin tone and hair color perfectly, but the best part was the pop of pink that her oversized clutch provided. If you pair this look with patent leather pumps and watch to match, like Heidi did, you've got all the tools to create this look at home. That is, if you've got the $1,500 to spare.

Celebrity Style: Michelle Williams

Is it just me or are the stylish mommies out and about?

Is it just me or are the stylish mommies out and about? Check out Michelle Williams and her little one Matilda. The adorable duo were spotted taking a leisurely stroll on the streets of Brooklyn. Motherhood certainly hasn't affected Michelle's casually cool style. The actress is nonchalant in her black and white gingham shirt and dark denim shorts. Classic white kicks are the perfect choice for all that walking, and of course, her Ray-Ban Wayfarers top off the look. Simple, chic, and cute. On another note, that green drink looks yummy!
