The Look For Less: Diane Kruger

It's been while since I featured Fab favorite Diane, so I needed my fix — you don't mind do you?

It's been while since I featured Fab favorite Diane, so I needed my fix — you don't mind do you?

At the Tod's Fall shopping party in the Hamptons, Diane looked Summer stylish in a Derek Lam black tiered dress, a carefree headband, and a Tod's python clutch. Iced tea in hand, Diane looked the best at the event, but you don't even want to know how much her Lam dress was. And no need, I found a cheaper alternative with just the same amount of hippie chic and some equally fun accessories. We love you Diane!

Celebrity Style: Amanda Peet

Amanda looked just right in an off-kilter Thakoon dress to celebrate her cover on Gotham magazine.

Amanda looked just right in an off-kilter Thakoon dress to celebrate her cover on Gotham magazine. Her black-patent shoes with a baby tie are adorable and her woven clutch provides further depth. She let the dress shine with minimal jewelry, but played with her makeup colors and messy hair. Congrats cover girl!

Trend Alert: Fringed Shoes I know this might seem like an easy point of blame, but I think it's fair to say that you can blame Kate Moss for fringed shoes. Her obsession with moccasin boots has caused them to stay on the fashion radar (albeit on the outskirts) for almost as long as Ugg boots.

Betsey Johnson

Happy 30 Years Betsey!

Without Betsey Johnson, I would have gone to many high school dances naked.

Without Betsey Johnson, I would have gone to many high school dances naked. She was, still is, my go-to designer for funky party dresses, and for that I am thankful. What would you like to thank Betsey for? A vintagey frock? A rocked out handbag? A ruffled cardigan? Girlie jewelry? Betsey is celebrating 30 years in the fashion business this year. Her company remains privately owned, and she currently has more than 70 stores worldwide, 800 wholesale accounts, and 10 licensees. But most impressive of all, Betsey has remained true to her ultrafemme, ultrafun aesthetic. Join me in wishing our favorite cartwheeling designer a big congratulations by testing your Betsey knowledge — how well do you know Betsey J?!

British brand Aquascutum will be expanding its territory into the the US come Fall. The company is set to launch a line of separates named the London collection at Saks Fifth Avenue locations in August. Meanwhile, Bergdorf Goodman will carry Aquascutum's vintage collection of coats.

“I think there is a huge desire from the American consumer for us, so it’s a very good time for us to be going in,” said president and chief executive officer at Aquascutum, Kim Winser.

The Aquascutum London line will feature blouses, wool skirts, and silk graphic dresses with pricing around $780. The vintage collection will include designs inspired by Aquascutum’s archives, such as a hot pink wool swing coat priced at $3,940. Steep, but fabulous I'm sure . . .

Fab Flash: Wangified Shoes and Diffuse

Alexander Wang is clearly on the up and up.

Alexander Wang is clearly on the up and up. If you dig his cool, disheleved vibe, listen up. Wang is adding shoes and a diffusion line to his Spring line up. The San Francisco native, who has always cited Kate Moss as muse, also recently upgraded his design studio in NYC. Furthermore, Wang hired a new stylist, to fill in for model and bff Erin Wasson.

“[Fall] was the season where people really recognized us,” said Wang. “We’re under a microscope now. We have to watch our moves and make sure everything we do is right.”

Come Spring 2009, a diffusion line will present cotton basics, like tanks, tees and tee shirt dresses, at $28-$40 wholesale, in everyday colors black, white and gray. But they won't be too basic. “Necklines are stretched and armholes are strategically lowered so that it looks worn in,” he explains. On the other hand, his footwear promises to be fierce. There will be five styles, all different takes on the platform sandal. The shoes will compliment his up-and-coming Spring collection which he hinted will be very colorful, focus on separates and have a slight Miami Vice vibe. Cool.
