2009 Fall New York Fashion Week: A Few Fab Words With . . . Privileged Star Joanna Garcia at BCBG

I know you all love some BCBG, and guess who does too?

I know you all love some BCBG, and guess who does too? Privileged star Joanna Garcia. I chatted with her front row at the show, and a new girl crush started to develop. Before I take you into the mind of Joanna — the clothes. They were architectural and fluid, hard and soft. Colors ranged from ivory to dusty wineberry to teal to steel gray. BCBG focused on the future and constructivism. I'll pass on the cocoon-like coats, but the fluid dresses always make me melt. Fabrics were diverse: wool jacquard, silk, micro jersey, and velvet. The shibori-dyed items piqued my interest, delivering an exotic side of BCBG. What really made the clothes shine, though, were the hypnotizing gold and pewter legging tights; now those were future chic.

Here's what Joanna and I chatted about:

We have a website called CelebStyle.com where we cover your Privileged wardrobe.

"Yeah, I know! It's so great. The girls have much more fun stuff on there, but I definitely love looking at all that stuff; I think it's such a great website."

Can you talk about your wardrobe on the show?

"My wardrobe is pretty basic. Cute tops, and sweaters, and jeans, stuff like that. Very much my everyday style. The other girls have a lot more fun. I actually helped design an original dress for our season finale. It took three fittings, and I was like 'This is for the birds! This is a lot of work,' so I leave the high fashion to the other girls. It was absolutely beautiful though. It was made for me, and I’ve never had that before, except my prom dress when I was 17 and it didn't turn out as nice."

This Week's Fab Favorite: Rihanna

Just hours prior to all the drama with Chris Brown, Rihanna attended a pre-Grammy party looking as alluring as she usually does.

Just hours prior to all the drama with Chris Brown, Rihanna attended a pre-Grammy party looking as alluring as she usually does. Seeing as she's an ambassador for Gucci, it makes sense that she chose one of the maxi dresses from its Spring '09 collection. The result isn't the bad girl we're used to seeing, but rather a spunky, modern-day goddess.

Maxis aren't anything new on the red carpet, but this one stands out because of its vivid colors. I love the mix of blue, teal, and white, and the way she belted it to accentuate her waist. Rihanna is a master at accessorizing — get a hold of those gold-chain hoop earrings, bangles, and art deco cuff bracelet. You look flawless girl, get better soon.

New York Fashion Week, Fall 2009: Heart Truth Red Dress Collection

Today was my first official full day of Fashion Week and I couldn't have kicked it off with a better show.

Today was my first official full day of Fashion Week and I couldn't have kicked it off with a better show. The Heart Truth Red Dress Collection is a feel good show that benefits a good cause — heart disease in women. It was super fun because fearless celebrity females strutted their stuff in various red designer dresses. It was cool to see Vivica Fox sing down the runway in her super sparkly Jenny Packham gown, and gold medalist Nastia Liukin work it in a saucy BCBG LRD. These stars proved that you can make serious waves in a red dress. With a touching introduction by the beloved Tim Gunn, a parade of famous faces took the stage. Before I leave you, here are the four things you can do to prevent heart disease: eat right, be physically active, do not smoke, and keep your body weight low. For more info, visit HeartTruth.gov. On with the show!

On Our Radar: Christian Siriano on the Cheap

Project Runway fave Christian Siriano is taking his design to the masses.

Project Runway fave Christian Siriano is taking his design to the masses. The talented young gun has teamed up with Payless ShoeSource to create a fabulously fierce collection of accessories and footwear. The line, ranging from $25 to $45, focuses on sky-high heels and embellished handbags inspired by Egyptian artifacts and hieroglyphics. “We started very high, very conceptual and very cool, and then made it wearable and marketable,” said Siriano. “I wanted it to be hard and rock-esque.” Siriano's collab with Payless will make its first appearance at New York Fashion Week. Sounds promising!

Fab Finger Discount: Quiksilver Aurelie Sweatshirt

There's only so many hooded sweatshirts one can see without becoming bored.

There's only so many hooded sweatshirts one can see without becoming bored. This Quiksilver Aurelie Sweatshirt ($24, originally $78), on the other hand, is the antithesis of dull. It's a hoodie with a girlie twist achieved by the scoop drawstring bodice. You can tighten it for dramatic flair or loosen it for a casual approach. It will keep you cozy like a regular sweatshirt but will simultaneously show off your stylish side. And I don't know about you, but I like to look fashionable even when bumming it.
