Fab Read: Madeleine Vionnet

"When a woman smiles, then her dress should smile too," said Madeleine Vionnet.

"When a woman smiles, then her dress should smile too," said Madeleine Vionnet. I admit, I didn't know much about Vionnet until I read Madeleine Vionnet, by Pamela Golbin and Patrick Gries. If it weren't for Madeleine, dubbed the queen of the bias cut, gowns and skirts wouldn't be half as fluid and sexy as they are today. Not only did the late and great Madeleine create the bias, she also spearheaded the invention of the handkerchief dress, cowl neck, and halter top — wow. This book also features an illustrated chronology of her life and never-seen-before photos. It was kind of like stepping into a romantic history lesson on the creative mind of Vionnet. Cool.

The Best of Cannes — Daytrippers

If I could attend any fabulous celeb-infused event it would be the Cannes Film Festival.

If I could attend any fabulous celeb-infused event it would be the Cannes Film Festival. Hands down. Did you follow our coverage? Every day just seemed so fun, glamorous, and fabulously Euro! I'm still flipping through the days of pictures, there was so much I missed. You saw some gowns via my fashion polls, but there was so much more. Photocalls, yachts, and, of course, red-carpet galore. I divided the Fab times into two slideshows — day and night. Wakey wakey eggs and bakey, or should I say croissants and parfait?

A Fab Wedding in Tennessee . . . and Colorado

While it's traditional to have one's wedding ceremony and reception in one place, amelioratelj and her hubby switched it up.

While it's traditional to have one's wedding ceremony and reception in one place, amelioratelj and her hubby switched it up. They got married in Tennessee in November 2008, then had their belated reception in Colorado this month. To me, that means one thing: two dresses! Both her vintage-inspired ivory wedding dress and her black strapless lace reception dress are stunning. I especially love her netted veil. The pictures ooze old-school glamour, so much so that the wedding might as well have taken place in the '40s. Congratulations to the gorgeous couple!
