2011 Fall Milan Fashion Week: Missoni

The Missoni models cruised the catwalk like a series of Easter eggs in the prettiest pastels: lavender, baby blue, soft yellow, and peach.

The Missoni models cruised the catwalk like a series of Easter eggs in the prettiest pastels: lavender, baby blue, soft yellow, and peach. It was a bohemian's springtime dream — long dresses and skirts were layered with equally long knits and jackets — and delivered via luxurious textiles including python. It was utterly wearable, just perhaps not all at once unless you like to overdose on candy. Taken alone, there were plenty of covetable, fun knits and dresses that looked to be inspired by the house heiress, Margherita Missoni.

  • Trends: Layering, duster coats, python, floral prints, maxi skirts.
  • Colors: Pastels: lavender, baby blue, soft yellow, peach, mint.
  • Key Looks: Long floral-print hemlines underneath long sweaters.
  • Accessories: Round glasses, knit berets, python shoes.
  • Who Would Wear It: Luxe bohemians, like Missoni heiress Margherita.

Blair Waldorf looks feminine and sophisticated in episode 17 of Gossip Girl. Her ruffled Jill Stuart blouse and red Tucker skirt look adorable alone, but add a few extra pieces — a Dolce and Gabbana cardigan, fierce Ikasho fedora, Louis Vuitton bauble necklace, and patent Chanel bag — and this ensemble is truly vogue. 2011 Fall Milan Fashion Week: Dsquared2

A wild, wild Western-meets-Victorian world was the name of the game at Dsquared2.
Fall 2011 Milan Fashion Week: Dsquared2

A wild, wild Western-meets-Victorian world was the name of the game at Dsquared2. Fantastical and whimsical with full-length fur and leather, the Fall '11 looks take the most wearable of fabrics — leather, denim, plaid — and deliver theatrics in the form of Western-styled head-to-toe looks. No look was complete without a wide-brimmed hat or pair of gloves, a fur collar, or a leather accoutrement. But for all its showmanship, there are the trends we'd wear — the cool-girl pieces in leather and fitted knits and denim, then the accessories, like studded belts and lace-up boots. It's confident and tough, so badass we actually suspect the ladies catwalking might be toting real pistols in those holsters.

  • Trends: Western, fur, leather, denim, hats.
  • Colors: Black, burgundy, plaid.
  • Key Looks: Full-length leather skirt and denim jacket topped with a wide-brim fedora and fur collar; a full-length body-con gray skirt and bow-tie.
  • Accessories: Wide-brim hats, leather gloves, lace-up platform boots on blades, belts with holsters.
  • Who Would Wear It: Erin Wasson and other confident, sexy tomboys with a thing for Western flavor.

For Versace's Versus, Christopher Kane envisions a glittery Fall '11.
Fall 2011 Milan Fashion Week: Versus

For Versace's Versus, Christopher Kane envisions a glittery Fall '11. Still, take that with a grain of salt, or in this case a helping of black leather, minimalist cuts, and sheer details to sober and balance what could be too youthful. Instead, the glittered, bold graphic prints meld easily with the more adult world — calf-length skirts, a bustier, opaque tights, and sheath dresses with sheer middles. He dabbles in the playful, neon-injected world of color that we see in his own namesake collection, but tones it down, adding more pants, separates, even knits — equal parts artsy and edgy with polish and restraint.

  • Trends: Graphic print, leather, sheer paneling.
  • Colors: Black, metallic green, silver, purple.
  • Key Looks: Sheer, corsetted top and metallic, graphic print skirt.
  • Accessories: Black opaque tights, ankle-strap closed-toe platforms, glittery box clutches and sandals.
  • Who Would Wear It: Artsy types who appreciate minimalist cuts with imaginative finish.
