Christian Dior: Spring 2012

Christian Dior will be announcing a new head designer soon, but in the meantime, John Galliano's former right-hand man Bill Gaytten, who has headed up Dior since Galliano's departure, sent out a polished, ladylike Spring 2012 collection that stayed true to the Dior woman. It was a collection that focused on getting dressed up, with cocktail dresses and gowns of chiffon, organza, and lace, intricately constructed in a perfectly-executed take on the Dior classics. There was no big, new theme; rather the collection was a lovely reminder of the brand's history and stylistic power.

  • Trends: ladylike, boudoir, cocoon jackets, evening wear.
  • Colors: seafoam green, red, black, white, blush.
  • Key Piece: the lace and chiffon boudoir-inspired gowns for the red carpet.
  • Accessories: pouch bags, strappy stilettos.
  • Who Would Wear It: Ladies of the red carpet who want a truly feminine, classic look. We love the thought of Keira Knightley, Rose Huntington-Whiteley, and Emma Stone in the cocktail dresses.

Lanvin: Spring 2012

For Spring 2012, Alber Elbaz offered a collection of fluid, beautiful clothes that proffered modern ideas about strength, femininity, and wearability. For daywear, he paired high-waisted pencil skirts with oversized organza tees or exaggerated shoulder tops, but it didn't create a football player effect as you would think. Instead it seemed modern, sculpted and strong. Some skirts and dresses were stitched together loosely to create cutouts, a flirtratious approach to ladylike dressing, and a parade of gorgeously draped dresses were done in sheer chiffon, wore over bodysuits, for a look that admittedly wouldn't fly in real life without a slip, but were absolutely gorgeous to look at on the runway, especially styled with the stunning winged necklaces. Finally, there were dresses that had coiled jeweled snakes wrapped around the collar. Was it a reference to the original Eve? We're not sure, but the effect was ultra sexy and provocative, and we know we'll see those on the red carpet.

  • Trends: sheerness, ladylike dressing, cutouts, boudoir, draping, minimalism.
  • Colors: acid green, sky blue, blush, deep purple, charcoal.
  • Key Piece: snake-embellished dresses, draped dresses, the wide-shoulder dresses and tops.
  • Accessories: bird wing necklaces, oversized crosses, and other statement jewels.
  • Who Would Wear It: sophisticated women with a more modern approach to femininity, like Selma Blair, the Olsen twins, or Michelle Williams.

Isabel Marant: Spring 2012

It doesn't take much for us to go dizzy over Izzy, but somehow, Isabel Marant's Spring collection has left us more enamored than ever before. Marant has the Parisian-cool look down pat, as seen in the array of sexy hand-knit dresses, doodle-print jeans, and minidresses she sent down the runway. It was the perfect balance of rock-star-meets-bohemian, as even more evidenced in pastel patchwork pieces paired with cozy knits, and fringed sweaters with snakeskin-print pants. Meanwhile, partywear options were provided via body-hugging minidresses made in tie-dye and metallic prints. Marant also showed off her sporty side with football tees and surprisingly chic track pants. Leave it to Marant to make sweatpants and tees look so good. After all, there's a reason why the designer has such a cult following. More details from the collection below.

  • Trends: Colorful knits, football tees, printed and patchwork jeans, track pants, tie-dye.
  • Colors: Pastels, blue, yellow, red, black, orange, pink, purple.
  • Key Look: The sexy knitted dresses and patchwork pieces.
  • Accessories: Sexy chain-embellished ankle-wrap sandals in metallic hues.
  • Who Would Wear It: Girls who crave Parisian-cool looks like Kate Bosworth and Sienna Miller.

We love how the brand manages to twist such classic staples into refreshingly new ways, so before you check out the rest, read our quick Fall styling tips gleaned from the mixmasters themselves.

  • Add color and warmth to your wardrobe with fun printed knits. We love the idea of a cozy patterned maxi dress for Fall.
  • Do experiment with Winter white hues via wool trousers or a luxurious sweater.
  • Green and red can look great together when done right. For the latter, opt for darker shades like wine or persimmon to avoid looking like a Christmas card.

Roland Mouret Spring 2012

Roland Mouret knows what women want: to appear incredibly sexy, without ever feeling like you've gone too far or tried too hard.
Roland Mouret: Spring 2012

Roland Mouret knows what women want: to appear incredibly sexy, without ever feeling like you've gone too far or tried too hard. For Spring 2012, he exercised that same restraint via cutouts and form-fitting shapes — but only to a certain extent. While his Fall '11 looks veered into softer femininity, there is a mix both of retro-inspired silhouettes giving way to more modern details. Dresses are, at first, printed and ladylike, then sharper and tailored, some with curve-hugging fits and flashes of skin via unexpected eye-shaped cutouts. Then, he counters with suiting; bright, slim trousers and button-downs, and midi skirts, all embellished with black ribbon bow-ties to temper the cutouts and sexier fare. You could just as easily find your standout cocktail dress as you could your workday office wear, and it would all be the perfect kind of sexy for whatever the occasion.

  • Trends: Brights, cutouts, ladylike dressing.
  • Colors: Black, white, blues, red, mustard yellow.
  • Key Look: The navy shirtdress and sheaths with surprising, sexy cutouts.
  • Accessories: White and black platform sandals.
  • Who Would Wear It: Girls who crave polish, but not without a little sex appeal.
