"I'm still terrified," Rachel Zoe told us at her first-ever Spring 2012 presentation at New York Fashion Week. We caught up with the stylist turned designer and found out her inspiration for Spring, her favorite pieces from the line, and why she hasn't had a normal fashion week in over four years.
Carolina Herrera is known for her gorgeous red-carpet gowns, and her Spring 2012 collection left no shortage of evening dresses destined for Hollywood. Check out the runway coverage here to see more of her full-length frocks and daytime separates.
Donna Karan's Spring 2012 runway channeled a strong tribal feel with muted earthy notes, wild prints, and spiked accessories, paired with slicked back ponytails and bare faces — save for a dark lip on the models. The ruched body-hugging dresses throughout the line continued that fierce feminine silhouette the designer is known for — check out the full runway here for more, and read our editor's full review of the collection.
Donna Karan looked afar for her Spring 2012 collection, which had a powerful tribal element that was more queen-of-the-desert than girl-on-safari. Karan cited her recent travels in Haiti as inspiration, which would explain why Wyclef Jean sat front row, and received a big kiss from Karan during her final bow. Glamourous, body-hugging ruched gowns were rendered in earth tones like mud, sienna, black, and cream, and accessorized with incredible spiked necklaces, which made the tall, slender models with their slicked back ponytails seem regal. There were daytime options too, like an airy canvas full skirt covered in earth-toned brushstrokes and paired with a sexy cutout racer bra, and a tailored leather tent coat over a canvas and jersey dress. The key, though, was the body-flattering drape of the dresses. Karan might be designing from an intensely personal experience, but she always keeps the everyday woman in mind, and the precise ruching and draping reflected her knowledge of a woman's curves in all the right ways. Watch our runway video to see the gorgeous looks in motion!
We caught up with Jordin Sparks at the Alice + Olivia presentation, where the former American Idol winner told us she's working on her new album and is gearing up for a huge announcement soon. Check out our interview with Jordin where she reveals her favorite Fall accessory and what she loves about New York Fashion Week.
Rebecca Minkoff debuted a Spring collection today that will surely be sought after by a bevy of downtown girls. As DJ Mia Moretti mixed the soundtrack, the crowd — which included guests Sophia Bush, Chris Pine, Jessica Szohr, Alexis Bledel, and Michelle Trachtenberg — seemed mesmerized by Minkoff's "Desert-Love" collection featuring a sun-drenched color palette. Romantic billowy blouses, louche print trousers, sheer maxi dresses, and lace tops showed Minkoff's signature romantic touch, while leather separates and cutout dresses added edge. Minkoff's accessories collection was also in full force as the models held on to colorful clutches and chain bags. Down below, we spied a range of cutout booties and sweet lace-up sandals. However, the icing on the cake came when the crowd went crazy for the Man Repeller's Leandra Medine as she walked down the runway wearing a pair of black leather shorts and silk blouse. All while filming the moment on her own camera phone, of course. More details from the collection below.
