While the People's Choice Awards may have been privy to the technicolor invasion, we were flush with bright pastels at tonight's Critics' Choice Awards. Hollywood's leading ladies opted for candy-colored hues, which made for a playfully fun and whimsical red-carpet rundown. Elizabeth Olsen radiated in a sunshine-yellow beaded Pucci minidress and nude peep-toes; Diane Kruger flawlessly executed a bright mixture of grays and canary yellows in a floor-length Prada creation and added a hot-pink clutch as the cherry on top; and Jessica Chastain went soft and pretty with a cotton-candy-pink Balenciaga gown. These bright pastels allow for streamlined accessories, fresh-faced makeup, and, of course, killer shoes; and because of its styling simplicity, we think this is just the beginning of this Spring-inspired color scheme's appeal. At tonight's Critics' Choice Awards, one sweeping trend managed to connect our red (er, gray) carpet beauties. Minimalist chic was a recurring theme for some stars, who ditched last night's bright, bold hues in order to display cool spins on a graphic black and white color palette instead — making for an evening of undeniably classic, ladylike looks. From Shailene Woodley's sexy, understated Calvin Klein to Tilda Swinton's suited-up swagger, click through now to see how celebs made the most of a timeless trend.
The celebrities brought out their fashion A-game tonight, and we've been taking notes on all of their gorgeous looks. While it was hard deciding, we narrowed it down to the top five: Diane Kruger left us awestruck in a halter gown by Prada, Viola Davis – winner of the best actress award for her role in The Help — looked sophisticated and sexy in a red gown by Raoul, and Michelle Williams channeled true Hollywood glamour in black and white Chanel. Kirsten Dunst also stole our hearts in chiffon layers by Christian Dior, while Emma Stone radiated in a green printed dress by Jason Wu. Take a long look at these ladies, and vote on your favorite look of the evening below.
The classics are classics for good reason, and funny lady Judy Greer knows a timeless frock when she sees one. Sporting a lace, form-fitting dress, Judy completed the look with black and nude pumps and a pulled-back-on-the-sides coiffure. Pretty, peachy makeup kept in line with her understated ensemble. Are you a fan of Judy's Critics' Choice style, or do you wish she had gone for something a tad more bold?Vote on all of our Critics' Choice Awards polls here!
The Descendants' Shailene Woodley opted for a slinky silver Calvin Klein number, and with such a sexy silhouette, the actress didn't need to do much in the way of accessorizing. The real showstopping detail? The dress's skin-baring backless detail, which left nothing to hide. She wore her ombré-tinged hair sleek and straight but added a subtle hint of metallic eyeliner for a pop of color.
