We've pored over all the looks from tonight's Oscars red carpet, and while the competition was tough, five women debuted looks that were simply perfect in our book, and thus, they get our nod for best dressed.

We've pored over all the looks from tonight's Oscars red carpet, and while the competition was tough, five women debuted looks that were simply perfect in our book, and thus, they get our nod for best dressed. Rooney Mara, Angelina Jolie, Jessica Chastain, Michelle Williams, and Gwyneth Paltrow were the best-dressed women on the red carpet. Our criteria? It's not about the biggest jewels or the flashiest dress; rather, it's about who knows how to pull off a look the best, and picking the gown is just the first step. These ladies show they know how to style it up on the red carpet. Now it's your turn: tell us who you think had the best look of the night.

Shop the Oscar Night Trend: Red Dresses

Perhaps Hollywood starlets took the term red carpet literally this year, because dresses in every shade of red dominated the night.

Perhaps Hollywood starlets took the term red carpet literally this year, because dresses in every shade of red dominated the night. We can understand why — it's a statement-making color, particularly in a floor-length gown. There were all kinds of silhouettes — Rosie Huntington-Whiteley went for classic elegance in Antonio Berardi, Claire Danes did the girlie thing in Valentino, and Diane Kruger went for a boudoir-inspired look. Whatever your style may be, we suggest trying this dress color if you want to make a big statement at your next dressed-up event. Kirsten Dunst Says Have Fun With Your Bag and Shoes

At the 2012 Film Independent Spirit Awards in LA, Kirsten Dunst proved that having fun with your shoes and bag is a risk that can totally pay off when done right.

At the 2012 Film Independent Spirit Awards in LA, Kirsten Dunst proved that having fun with your shoes and bag is a risk that can totally pay off when done right. First, the actress opted to keep her clothing super sleek, wearing a fitted sweetheart LBD topped with a shawl-lapel white blazer. It's because of this clean palette that Kirsten was able to inject fun accessories. On her feet she wore chunky floral wedges, which coordinated with her black, white, and yellow color theme. Then on her arm she carried a yellow clutch, adding a fabulous pop of color. You can re-create this look for your next fancy soiree by pairing a black dress with a white blazer, then adding a colored clutch and funky footwear. Play around with the palette; it need not be the same as Kirsten's. If you love her look, shop similar pieces below.
