Isabel Marant Runway Fall 2012

For her Fall 2012 collection, Isabel Marant mixed her signature bohemian-cool style with a splash of the Wild West. Specifically, it was the late 19th century cowgirls that inspired Marant: "I love the way they were wearing very masculine trousers to ride horses with lace shirts," said Marant. That said, the designer mixed feminine pieces with tougher elements by pairing a bevy of cowgirl shirts and sheer blouses with ruffled skirts and cropped pants. The latter featured a mix of fringed jeans and a standout pair of louche gray suede trousers with red trim. Short dresses ranged from laser-cut leather minis to a silk shirtdress rendition of the cowgirl top. Shoes are always a big seller for Marant, and we can already predict a long waiting list for her newest offerings: point-toe pumps with cutout details and embroidered leather cowboy boots. More details from Isabel Marant's irresistibly cool collection below.

  • Trends: Western influence, oversized coats, laser-cut detailing, cropped flare pants.
  • Colors: Red, gray, ivory, military green, black, navy, pink.

Christian Dior Fall 2012

Most girls spend their childhood days dreaming of fairytale endings and prima ballerina flights of fancy.
Christian Dior Runway Fall 2012

Most girls spend their childhood days dreaming of fairytale endings and prima ballerina flights of fancy. To this point, we imagine the Christian Dior Fall 2012 lineup brought to life so many of those diaphanous frocks and ballgowns conjured up in our heads. Creamy pinks and pastels, full-skirted silhouettes, and strong ballerina references — right down to the ankle-strap heels — punctuated the collection. There were silky knotted-at-the-nape dresses, super-cinched waists (belted, at that), tailored peplum tops with rich stone embroideries at the neckline, and an aprés-dance sweater-over-dress look cute enough to inspire us all to hit the barre. The equally feminine accessories — wide belts, opera-length leather gloves, luxe beanies, portfolio clutches, and pointe-shoe-inspired heels — provided a well-rounded polish to each frothy lilac, pink, and muted gray creation. Rich in cut and girlie proportions, the final gowns proved to be worthy of the princess-like ensembles that preceded them — both in red-carpet wearability and elegance. It was a perfectly ladylike showing of nipped waists and sophisticated, flowing silhouettes, with just the softest pops of paisley and houndstooth prints. See below for more Christian Dior details.

  • Trends: Full-skirted silhouettes (often belted), cinched waists, peplum, pale pastels, and ballerina-inspired frocks.
  • Colors: Dusty pink, gray, lilac, black, creamy beige, ivory, and pops of midnight blue.
  • Key Piece: Diaphanous full skirts, belted, and topped off with ballerina-worthy ankle-strap pumps.
  • Accessories: Ankle-strap pumps, slick wide belts, opera-length leather gloves, portfolio clutches, and cashmere-knit beanies.
  • Who Would Wear It: Ladies who can't live without an ultra-flirty silhouette, like Sarah Jessica Parker, Emma Stone, and Natalie Portman.

Kristen Stewart is known for her tomboy charm, and now that she's the new face of Balenciaga, she's putting her own spin on the house's couture collections. While out in Paris, Kristen donned a dark-hued look: Joe's Abigail tank, cuffed gray skinnies by 7 for All Mankind, and her signature Vans, which she topped with a badass Balenciaga quilted motorcycle jacket. Here's a less-expensive alternative. Clear sunglasses, red nail polish, and that classic Kristen smolder finish off her edgy look. Channel your inner Kristen by layering a leather jacket over an all-black ensemble — don't forget the Vans — or style your leather topper over a black dress for a rock-chic take on evening wear.
