Brad Goreski Shares His Closet Organization Tips and Tells Us Which Trendy Items We Should Toss, Stat
Last night, we chatted with stylist extraordinaire Brad Goreski at eBay's selling style event. Since the evening was all about getting rid of lost loves — also known as the pieces in your closet you know you'll never wear — and replacing them with something new, we asked Brad, also part of eBay's chic squad, to share his thoughts on editing our wardrobe. "Once we allow ourselves to free up that space that is being held by things we never wear, then we free up that space with better and more beautiful things to come in," said Brad. "Everyone has those shoes in the closet that are 1/2 size too big or too small or that dress that doesn't fit anymore. Now, you can easily sell those items [on eBay] and use that money to buy those Céline shoes you've been lusting after." Safe to say, we're all guilty of hoarding such pieces.
So which trendy items should you definitely get rid of? "One of the things I think should really disappear are any denim that has any kind of embroidery or embellishment (unless it's a stud) on the pockets or any kind of jeans with oversized stitching," said Goreski. "Jeans should just be clean, beautiful, and classic." So with a strong heart and Brad's amazing closet organization tips in hand, we urge you to set forth and start detoxing your closet. Just read below for Brad's quick and easy tips now:
Brad Goreski's closet organization tips:
- Do a mini Spring cleaning. We all have that dress in our closet that we haven't worn in a year; pull that dress out and get rid of it.
- Go through the things in your drawers and evaluate whether you really need a certain number of things you have in your closet. I have 40 cashmere sweaters, do I really need 40? How many pairs of jeans do you really need? Just keep the ones you are really into right now.
- Get rid of duplicates and things in your closet which still has its tags on.
- Try to allow yourself to part with something that you've been holding onto for a long time. Things that you don't love but just can't seem to get rid of for some reason. Just know that the thing you're going to get rid of is going to turn into something new and beautiful.

At the LA Kings game at the Staples Center, Kate Hudson showed off more than her hockey pride when she toted around a new embroidered printed hobo that took her sporty look to bohemian-chic heights. The actress topped her game-day outfit — gray silk blouse, tan suede jacket, and wide-leg denim — with her eye-catching tote, as well as an official LA Kings cap ($28) to show her support. To get in on Kate's hobo, which has Summer written all over it, shop our favorite similarly printed bags below. Whether you pick tribal, ikat, or animal print, it'll add major flair to any warm-weather look.
We've already made our love for high-waisted shorts crystal clear, but to add to our conviction, we've zeroed in on 10 street stylers who've put their Summer spin on the high-rise variety. We love this retro silhouette and with the addition of a tucked-in semisheer blouse and summery espadrille wedges, it has all the makings of Rita Hayworth's bombshell style. Or you can easily opt for a modern interpretation by adding this season's must-have white blazer and a slouchy tee. Need just one more reason to try the trend? High-waisted shorts elongate your legs and who doesn't want model-esque gams? Now, click through to get a closer look at how these street-style pros perfected the art of rocking high-waist shorts.
Brooke Burke was the vision of Summer fun while at an outdoor event for Operation Smile in LA, where she wore this fabulous Alice + Olivia printed Aida belted romper ($297) with two-tone wedges. While such a loud piece may not seem versatile enough to carry you through Summer, we beg to differ. For a daytime look, wear it like Brooke did with simple jewels and wedge sandals, or pair it with a black or white blazer and metallic high heels for a nighttime summery feel. Throw on a black or brown leather jacket and Brooke's Alice + Olivia romper will instantly turn edgy, or give it a resort spin by tying a white button-down over it. Another option is to sport it underneath a denim vest or jacket for a more casual-cool look. The possibilities are endless, so if you've been seeking a standout Summer romper, add this one to your closet.
Celebrities have been dressing up their feet in the most fabulous footwear these days. Not only are they loving silver mirrored shoes right now, but they're also feeling minty green styles. And with Summer right around the corner, their hue of choice couldn't be any more perfect. Julianne Hough wore her little black dress with bright mint T-strap sandals, Dree Hemingway paired her white ruffly Chanel dress with mint-colored Mary Janes, and Elizabeth Olsen brightened up her all-black look with bold mint satin Manolo Blahnik pumps. If you don't own minty green shoes, be sure to add one or more to your mix to wear with everything from floral dresses to denim cutoffs to white jeans. Pumps, sandals, platforms, flats, there are many styles to choose from, so shop our favorites below.
It's no secret that we adore Sophia Bush's effortless style, so when we spotted the brunette beauty toting a new two-tone canvas Apolis bag ($218), it shot straight to the top of our Summer must-have list. While strolling through LAX, the actress worked her tote with a too-cool travel look that's easy to re-create. Later, she carried it with a more dressed-up look at an event. Shop Sophia's exact bag — bonus it's fireproof! — to work with all of your Summer ensembles, both overseas and local.
It was another stylish week on social media, and some of our fashion favorites gave us a glimpse of their daily lives online. We caught up with Poppy Delevingne while she lounged at the Veuve Clicquot Polo Match, and spotted Doutzen Kroes with a sleek new ride. Coco Rocha gave a crochet-covered tree some love in Mexico, and Kate Bosworth planted a smooch on Joseph Altuzarra at the CFDA Awards.
