Karl Lagerfeld showed Chanel's Fall 2012 Couture collection in Paris's Grand Palais to a star-studded crowd that included Diane Kruger, Clémence Poésy, and Sofia Coppola. Themed "new vintage," the collection highlighted a chic array of the brand's signature tweed cut in true ladylike fashion — skirt sets, dresses paired with cropped jackets, and slouched trouser suits inspired by Coco Chanel all emoted an understated elegance, while slouched beanies and metallic tights injected a dose of modernity. But that's not to say the drama was missing, as eveningwear highlighted the designer's decadent side. Lagerfeld's intricately beaded separates, silver lurex gowns, and silk dresses were the perfect mix of vintage modern glamour. However, the pièce de résistance was the closing look worn by Lindsey Wixson: a white tulle and pearl embellished gown, which reportedly took over 3,000 hours to make. Bucking the traditional Thanksgiving timing, my alma mater is throwing my high school reunion next week — smack in the middle of July. Naturally, I’m obsessing over what to wear. There's pressure to make up for all the teenage angst with one stellar outfit . . . in a way that doesn't look try-too-hard.

Well, the nice thing about a summertime reunion is that you can get away with showing a little skin — tastefully, of course. Herewith, some options:

While her latest poufy Chanel denim dress isn't exactly translatable to the streets, her accessories — black fisherman cap, rhinestone cuff earring, white watch, metallic clutch, and Christian Louboutin studded flats ($995) — certainly are. You can wear them together, like Diane did, or sport them separately with other standout accessories. Her flats also come in a nude spiked version ($995), which is more appropriate for Summer. Throw on the cap with an all-black outfit for unique edge, wear the white watch instead of your chunky one for classic flair, and throw on the single cuff earring with a snazzy cocktail dress for mega shine. The actress started with a basic white burnout tee, then topped it with a black double-breasted blazer and finished off with matching black trousers. Pointy studded flats, these Westward Leaning sunglasses ($275), and Jimmy Choo's black biker bag ($1,495) served as chic accessories, but it's her colorful beaded bracelets that lent a pop of sass to her otherwise serious ensemble. We admire that while Jessica chose a polished look in Paris, she decided to also add a bit of Cali fun to the mix.
