What a night! Fashion's Night Out took over NYC, and we hit the streets to witness the stylish mayhem. We hung out with Diane von Furstenberg and Solange at the designer's Meatpacking store, caught Alexa Chung in silly mode at Moschino, and even spied ANTM winner Lisa D'Amato showing off her moves at Express. That, plus braid bar action at Madewell, DJ spinning at Zara, and the new Shops collection at Target, all in our special-edition Fashion's Night Out Instagram recap. See all the fun in the slideshow!

MTV VMAs 2012: Who Wore What

The VMAs are famous for their shocking red-carpet looks, but this year was far more notable for achieving quite the opposite effect.

The VMAs are famous for their shocking red-carpet looks, but this year was far more notable for achieving quite the opposite effect. To start, Rihanna hit all the right notes in a curve-hugging white gown, Miley Cyrus turned it out in a darker sheer-paneled Emilio Pucci number, and Katy Perry appealed to her softer side in an embellished Elie Saab dress. What's the common dressing denominator here? These stylishly daring starlets opted for more sophisticated gowns this time around. That's right: no provocative cutouts, prints, or slits to be found — at least, not provocative by rockstar standards. However, a seriously eye-catching jumpsuit has been spotted. With even more standout outfits from Emma Watson, Rashida Jones, and Taylor Swift on deck, be sure to check out our up-to-date guide to who wore what at the MTV VMAs now.

See Kristen Stewart's Sheer, Floral Zuhair Murad Dress From All Angles

Kristen Stewart set the bar high with her Snow White and the Huntsman promo tour in May — a veritable tour de force in red-carpet dressing that included everything from a dramatically sheer and lace Marchesa confection to an ornate two-piece Balmain number.

Kristen Stewart set the bar high with her Snow White and the Huntsman promo tour in May — a veritable tour de force in red-carpet dressing that included everything from a dramatically sheer and lace Marchesa confection to an ornate two-piece Balmain number. So, it was only a matter of time until she would nail that premiere styling once again. Tonight, she stepped out in a fitted floral-embroidered Zuhair Murad Couture sheath and slick black Jimmy Choo pumps for the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of her film On the Road. This sleek dress — distinguishable by its beautifully sequined floral appliqué embroidery, sheer lace overlay, and sexy pencil-skirt silhouette — proved extra memorable, as it was also Kristen's first public appearance since news of her cheating scandal with director Rupert Sanders broke. Apart from the anticipation of merely spotting the brunette starlet this evening, we're totally taken with the ultrapretty details and her simple approach to accessorizing. See her Zuhair Murad Couture dress from all angles now.

VMAs: Katy Perry

We know that Katy Perry is capable of just about anything when it comes to red-carpet dressing — remember last year's quartet of zany outfit changes?

We know that Katy Perry is capable of just about anything when it comes to red-carpet dressing — remember last year's quartet of zany outfit changes? That's why we were pleasantly surprised to find the brunette beauty in serious bombshell mode. From its gathered leather bow-tie bustier and delicate sequin embellishments to its sheer skirt, her dark, floor-skimming Elie Saab gown proved utterly romantic. To keep with the theme of all-out prettiness, Katy kept her accessories minimal, her makeup light, and her black tresses loose and wavy. Do you prefer this feminine look to her more outrageous ones?

VMAs: Emma Watson

The Perks of Being a Wallflower starlet Emma Watson gave us pure, unadulterated fashion fun on tonight's red carpet — and it has everything to do with that colorfully quirky Peter Pilotto number.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower starlet Emma Watson gave us pure, unadulterated fashion fun on tonight's red carpet — and it has everything to do with that colorfully quirky Peter Pilotto number. It doesn't hurt that she also brought costar Ezra Miller as her main accessory and arm candy. But back to the dress: it's equal parts eclectic in its thickly woven skirt details, sporty in its multicolored mesh paneling, and sexy in its supershort, leg-baring length. If you can spare a moment for her shoes — and we think you should — they are something entirely vixenish to behold. On the whole, Emma continues to impress with off-the-cuff red-carpet ensembles that just work. Do you agree?

VMAs: Taylor Swift

If Taylor Swift reinforced one thing tonight, it's that the "no white after Labor Day" rule is a thing of the past.

If Taylor Swift reinforced one thing tonight, it's that the "no white after Labor Day" rule is a thing of the past. The singer stepped out in an ivory-colored J. Mendel pantsuit, complete with crisp white lapels — a total throwback to Bianca Jagger's iconic white pantsuit from the days of Studio 54. To offset her monochromatic, menswear-inspired look, she wore slick, metallic-gold Tom Ford sandals and her signature candy-apple-red lip. Is Taylor's tailored red-carpet ensemble a hit or a miss?

Red Carpet

VMAs: Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus turned it out in a black, plunge-front Emilio Pucci gown, spiked drop earrings, and a shiny, crystal-encrusted Edie Parker clutch.

Miley Cyrus turned it out in a black, plunge-front Emilio Pucci gown, spiked drop earrings, and a shiny, crystal-encrusted Edie Parker clutch. While the gown certainly called attention to her decolletage, it was the strategically placed sheer panel cutouts along the long sleeves and the length of the bodice that invoked a thoroughly sexy-meets-gothic vibe. To complement her darker red-carpet choice, she styled her new shorter hair in a bouffant-inspired pouf with minimal makeup to match. Are you digging her look?

Honor Spring 2013

An ethereal girliness prevailed for Honor Spring 2013, with a collection full of organza and soft botanical prints, and plenty of ruffles that felt a bit more cool than frilly.

An ethereal girliness prevailed for Honor Spring 2013, with a collection full of organza and soft botanical prints, and plenty of ruffles that felt a bit more cool than frilly. Neon green and pink were the color choices for pigment-print (it looked like a trippy floral) jackets and dresses. They were ladylike silhouettes, but featured cocoon sleeves, and many of the dresses had cutout backs and "microsparkle" trim that looked a little futuristic. Blouses featured Edwardian ruffles, which would have felt a bit costumey if not for the models sporting cool sunglasses and little crystals in their hair — it was like the cool girl meshed into a dreamy princess. If there's one must have from the very pretty collection, it's anything organza. The floaty, delicate fabric looked so fresh and wearable when made into a pair of high-waisted shorts.

  • Trends: organza, cocoon sleeves, botanical prints, neon.
  • Colors: Neon green and pink, white.
  • Key Piece: Organza high-waisted shorts and pants, a foliage-print jumpsuit.
  • Accessories: Jewels in hair! Tabitha Simmons for Honor sandals were really pretty.
  • Who Should Wear It: Taylor Swift has worn the line and this is perfectly suited to her girlie style; Keira Knightley should try out one of the pretty gowns for a red carpet event.
