Hailee Steinfeld made an extra-dazzling appearance at Erin Fetherston's Spring 2012 collection show at New York Fashion Week in this One by Erin Fetherston sequined sheath dress ($550) with nude patent Jimmy Choo peep-toes and a matching box clutch. Some dresses scream "look at me!" from a mile away, and Hailee's dress is one of those. Wear it for your next extravagant affair or, if the price tag is too high, consider this equally shiny alternative: Laundry by Shelli Segal sequined minidress ($106, originally $265). Cinch it with a nude belt and accompany it with nude peep-toes to blind your competition just like Hailee surely did.

Jenni Kayne Spring 2013

Drawing inspiration from her home turf, LA-based Jenni Kayne served up a chic, surf-inspired lineup for Spring '13.

Drawing inspiration from her home turf, LA-based Jenni Kayne served up a chic, surf-inspired lineup for Spring '13. Minimalist silhouettes were dipped in bright hues as Kayne presented sharp neon-yellow blazers, Navajo-printed crop tops, and even a red-carpet-worthy hot-pink silk gown. Kayne's play on tailored cuts purveyed a menswear touch, further exemplified with crisp shirtdresses and striped oxford shirts. Meanwhile, striped pants and tops made for an effortless yet eye-catching statement while tweed shiftdresses and short suits spoke to her casual cool style. The designer also brought back her popular d'orsay flats in a new assortment of pretty jewel-tone hues. In the end, it was all about the designer's laid-back attitude — with a refined twist — and you can't help but to want to move to the West Coast to live the same lifestyle.

  • Trends: Leather harnesses, lace, sculptural proportions, jumpsuits.
  • Colors: Pink, yellow, blue, gray, red.
  • Key Piece: Kayne's bold yellow blazer and dress combo is perfect for work or play.
  • Accessories: Jewel-tone suede d'orsay flats, leather cutout d'orsay flats, round sunglasses, gold bracelets, statement rings.
  • Who Should Wear It: The minimalist cool set. Kate Bosworth would shine in the bold Navajo-print crop top, and Rachel Bilson would love the bold gold lamé pieces.

VMAs: Rihanna

Baring just the right amount of skin — and showing off her brand new pixie haircut — Rihanna hit all the right notes in a crisp, custom white floor-length gown by Adam Selman and nude sandals.

Baring just the right amount of skin — and showing off her brand new pixie haircut — Rihanna hit all the right notes in a crisp, custom white floor-length gown by Adam Selman and nude sandals. The fitted number, complete with a dramatic tie-front cinch, hugged every curve, allowing for her svelte figure to take all the credit. Lest we forget, the dress's revealing back cutout was also adorned with sweet tied-knot details at the shoulders and the lower back. Unlike some of singer's more daring red-carpet appearances, this one appeals to a fresh, minimalist sensibility. How do you think she did?

VMAs: Zoe Saldana

Fresh off a glitzy Elie Saab-clad turn at The Words premiere, Zoe Saldana took a decidedly more low-key (read: beachy) approach to her red-carpet ensemble.

Fresh off a glitzy Elie Saab-clad turn at The Words premiere, Zoe Saldana took a decidedly more low-key (read: beachy) approach to her red-carpet ensemble. That doesn't mean the gorgeous starlet didn't impress — quite the opposite. Her cream-hued Salvatore Ferragamo minidress caught our eye with its tiered fringe and studded neckline detail. Not to mention, its short hem provided a serious dose of leg action, too. To top it all off, she paired sexy lace-up heels with a smokey eye and mussed-up hair, which tied her outfit together with a slightly sexier feel. Are you feeling Zoe's VMAs attire?

Our Ultimate Fashion's Night Out Guide — Take Your City By Storm

Tonight's the night: with FNO on tap, we've done the legwork for you.

Tonight's the night: with FNO on tap, we've done the legwork for you. All you have to do — other than promise to wear flats — is pick and choose the fashion events that most suit your fancy. It's like being a kid in a candy store. Rachel Zoe and Olivia Palermo will be on-hand to style and celebrate the grand opening of Piperlime's first-ever standalone store, Solange Knowles will be providing a seriously cool DJ-mixed soundtrack at Diane von Furstenberg's Meatpacking District spot, and H&M is employing a fleet of free double-decker buses to take customers to and from selected NYC locations. There's a lot more where that came from, so take a look at our Fashion's Night Out picks below (parsed out by city, no less), and if you're curious to see what else is going on in your city, then head straight to the source.

New York City

  • Alexander Wang — Leave it to Mr. Wang to capitalize on those very cool cages he's got set up in his SoHo flagship store — and that's where you come in. He asked FNO participants to get inspired by his Fall 2012 collection, then design an in-store cage installation sketch for an Aug. 22 submission. Since the submit date has passed, we're just excited to see the winning design, which will ultimately be revealed on Fashion's Night Out and will remain up through NY Fashion Week. (103 Grand St., 212-977-9683)
  • Alexis Bittar — Indulge in a little retail karaoke and complimentary cocktails at the brand's SoHo boutique. Those who are brave enough to take the mike will also receive a $50 gift certificate to shop — not a bad reason to sing, right? (465 Broome St., 212-625-8340)
  • Alice + Olivia — Whether you head to Stacy Bendet's 14th Street location, her midtown oasis, or her Madison Avenue spot, you'll be treated to the ultimate girls' night out. On the docket? You can dance along to awesome '80s jams, watch slumber-party chick flicks, get your hair braided, make a charm bracelet, and get your palm read — and that's just the beginning. (various NYC locations)
