Countering all of the bold pink hues we saw on the SAG Awards red carpet was a sea of chic navy-blue gowns. More specifically, the ones worn by A-listers like Jennifer Lawrence, Nicole Kidman, and Amanda Seyfried. Looking nothing short of spectacular, Jennifer — who took home the prize for best actress for her role in Silver Linings Playbook — wore a strapless Christian Dior Haute Couture gown. Meanwhile, Nicole opted for decadent detailing in a sheer beaded Vivienne Westwood creation, and Amanda dazzled us in a formfitting Zac Posen mermaid gown. This trio of stunning looks deserves honorable mention and a little friendly competition, too. Thus, we're putting their gowns to the test: which navy lady reigned supreme?

Yes, strapless gowns became one of the top trends of the night. Everyone from Kerry Washington in Rodarte to Lea Michele in Valentino to Amanda Seyfried in Zac Posen opted to show off a little more where neckline was concerned. Some added statement jewels for extra pizazz, while others went completely bare for a minimalistic feel. Either way, they proved that strapless silhouettes are still a very sexy option and the best way to play up a skin-revealing detail without going overboard. It's official: we've spotted the not-so-basic black dress trend at not one, not two, but three award shows so far. We first noticed it at the Critics' Choice Awards, then saw it crop up again at the Golden Globes, and now Claire Danes, Anne Hathaway, and Michelle Dockery (just to name a few) are opting for reinvented and reimagined black gowns at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. We're talking about dresses with sexy sheer cutouts, high-shine embellishments, and strategically placed ruffles. If there's one thing we can take away, it's that 2013 is the year we may take a second look at our go-to black dress in the back of our closets — it's time for an update.

The central ruffle of the saturated blue skirt ended just high enough so that we could catch a glimpse of her classic black pumps. Sleekly styled hair complemented her sophisticated gown, which she also accessorized with a textured black-and-white clutch. No red-carpet look would be complete without jewels, of course — a Chopard watch and diamond necklace were all she needed to finish her outfit with some serious sparkle.
