Fab Face: Fernanda Tavares

I've been wanting to give Fernanda the spotlight for a while, but thought hot weather was the more fitting time of year for her. I crushed on Fernanda all throughout college — her heyday was late '90s, early '00s — when the Brazilians had fashion world domination. The sweet-yet-sultry-faced beauty hails from Rio Grande Do Norte and she won the Elite Look of the Year contest at 13. Her bod, sharp brows, and plush lips are unforgettable.

Her repertoire spans runway, editorial, ad campaigns, Victoria's Secret, and Sports Illustrated. I also have fond memories of her Chloe face. Fun fact: she stays in shape by swimming and jogging — on it! For those of us wondering where she is now, Fernanda got married in '07 to a fellow Brazilian but remains buddies with the most successful Brazilian of our time: Gisele. Fernanda will always be my secret star.

Fab Ad: Bally Fall '09

Brian Atwood is gradually having a heavier hand in Bally's creative vision. Right on. For Fall, the brand stuck with muse Christy Turlington, who is paired up with Oriol Elcacho. According to Atwood, "Christy is simply the perfect Bally woman; graceful, intelligent, and natural; she exudes a sophisticated ease; her sensual beauty is perfectly complemented by Oriol’s strong and confident presence." The scene, shot by Mario Sorrenti, balances architecture with natural simplicity. The couple are striding — sophisticated, at ease, and confident. I can't help but stare at Christy's belted sheer purple print dress. The ads could have more pizazz, but are lovely nonetheless. Thoughts?

Fab Ad: Valentino Fall '09

If you're in the mood for sexy gloom, Valentino's Fall ad will quench your thirst. The campaign, shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, displays Iris Strubegger in a number of — cough — precarious positions wearing Valentino's high-slit frocks and furry coats. Iris's sharp features and glam makeup pull me in and the clothes are just enough to make me yearn for more. However, I can't help being boggled by Iris's spread eagle legs. Not the classiest pose but it sure caught my attention . . .

Fab Ad: Dolce and Gabbana Women's Fall '09

So we weren't impressed with Dolce and Gabbana's sporty Fall men's campaign. Moving on. Let's join the sultry Mariacarla Boscono, Heidi Mount, and Edita Vilkeviciute, in Vegas! Also shot by Steven Klein, the blue-hued ads depict the lionesses lounging across poker tables in the house's dramatic shoulderific Fall offerings. This image is my favorite, with the shaggy purple abominable coats. There's also Mariacarla in a white one — dig the surreal headgear. Vegas's bling and gaud rarely serve as backdrop for ads, what do you think of Dolce and Gabbana's high-fashion gamble?

This Week's Fab Favorite: Halle Berry

Halle is one of those women who makes sweats look sexy. Pure gorgeousness. Put the star in Marchesa and she's a bona-fide knockout. She wore Marchesa's one-shoulder lilac chiffon gown to the 12th Annual Shanghai International Film Festival. The sweet color and fantastic cut flatter her every inch. The jewel-encrusted slash detail glams up the frock, and bends around to the back — awesome. Her Jimmy Choo Keenan platforms keep the color story simple — lilac and gunmetal — and stacked glittering bangles add a sexy touch. I have no complaints — Halle's a heartbreaker.

The Donna Dish: "If You Can't Sleep in It, Forget It"

The Donna Karan wisdom continues. After listening to her and Ken Downing at the Neiman Marcus event in San Francisco, I have a newfound interest in draping and defining luxury. Donna also mentioned Michelle Obama ("Michelle Obama is an icon") and emphasized the importance of jewelry when she spoke of her years collaborating with Robert Lee Morris: "Jewelry is important. Accessories are extremely important." Oh, and my favorite Donna quote? "Glamour — I forgot the word glamour!" Here's more Donna dish:

Donna on draping: She always makes her skirts wide at the top and narrow at the bottom. "Draping is how fabric wraps around your body and accents the positive and hides the negative."

Donna defines luxury: There is a difference between seeing something and wearing it, and to her, wearing is luxury. It's the difference of seeing and touching. This year was the most challenging year. It's important to not deny it and have consciousness about it. "I feel luxury is how we care for ourselves and other human beings."

The ad, shot by Steven Klein, features Mendes and male companion Jamie Dornan, looking greased to perfection in Calvin Klein's skivvies. The black-and-white photography allows full focus on Eva and Jamie — check out that intimate pose. Hotness. Thanks to careful body arrangement, I'm still able to focus on Eva's delicious lace lingerie and consequently, Jamie's somewhat shiny boxer briefs. I'm definitely sold; are you?

H&M Nabs Jimmy Choo!

The Donna Dish: "We've Got a Lot on Our Shoulders Right Now"

Stella McCartney and now Donna Karan — looks like San Francisco is emerging as a fashion center.

When I think of Donna Karan, here's what comes to mind: draping, bodysuits, DKNY, womanly, classic, zen. When I met Donna Karan at a recent event at Neiman Marcus in SF, all those thoughts flooded me. But it wasn't overwhelming because Donna calmed me down with a (zen) fashion mantra: "Fashion is not all about what's on the outside. It's what you wear on the inside that also counts." I pondered that all day . . .

Prepondering, I witnessed an intimate runway show of her Fall collection. The charming senior vice president and fashion director of Neiman's, Ken Downing, served as co-maestro. Donna disclosed that she finds microphones "annoying. They're not genuine." And according to Downing, DK's collection was his high point at Fashion Week. "I love this collection," he said. On with the Donna!

Donna on her Fall collection: Her collection was a reflection of the past, present, and future. It's also empowerment for women. It's not just about designing. It's necessary to be intentionally thoughtful.
Donna on the resurgence of shoulder pads: "We've got a lot on our shoulders right now," DK said, referring to the economy. Ken said, "You can carry a lot more with those shoulder pads." Shoulder pads make hips appear narrower. Nobody gains weight on the shoulders, she said, referencing the cold shoulder dress.

Donna on color: She favors a color palette that's effortless. Grays, black, navy are endless palettes of classicism. It's an inner feeling she can't explain. She is affected by color and light. It's an artistic expression. "Red is like lipstick. An accent that always works." She's also inspired by her trips to Africa, the wilderness, nature, pavements in the city.
