Red is stunning on the red carpet, but so is black.
The Oscars is a serious black-tie affair, after all. There are a million things that can be done with an LBD, but the right black gown on the right woman doesn't require many bells and whistles. Black is chic, classic, and dramatic — excellent characteristics for the red carpet. Beyonce isn't one of my usual red carpet picks, but no one can deny she looked fantastic in this Atelier Versace black-velvet gown at the 2005 Oscars. Behold: film noir . . .

Many of us are reluctant to try out the Spring sheer trend. When I saw Amy Smart at the Reebok Takes You Around the World in One Night event last night in New York I remembered that polka dots on a sheer blouse convey the perfect sexy secretary look. Worn with jeans, it's laid-back and sophisticated; worn with a pencil skirt, it's a great date look. Amy's Sheer Silk Polka-Dot Top (on sale for $153, originally $235) is on sale and ready for the taking!

It's almost Oscars time, so you know what that means? Diamonds galore! Phillip Lim, Rodarte, Libertine, Jovovich-Hawk, and Alabama Chanin have all joined forces with the Diamond Information Center to celebrate Oscars fashions by creating one-of-a-kind red carpet looks incorporating diamond pieces.
All the gowns, including Rodarte's (left), are currently on display at the Chateau Marmont in LA — today is the last day — so if you're in the area, stop by and report!

Katie Holmes (and Tom Cruise) supported their friends at the First Annual Essence Black Women in Hollywood luncheon. Yet again, Katie put her best foot forward in purple peep-toe Loubs and an Alexander McQueen dress, sans belt. I think the actress just solidified the purple-accessory craze in Hollywood!

Ah, the transition between seasons. It's the only time you have your entire wardrobe to play with. It's not so hot that you can go out in a tank top, but it's not so cold where you need a jumbo parka. The key to dressing for this limbo period is layering. Think cardigans, beanies, dresses over sweaters . . . you catch my drift.
I'll start you off with this Mini-Star Print Scarf ($20) as it's right on point with the latest starry-eyed trend.
