Dream Girls: The Models Who Made It Big This Season "Diversity" was the buzzword for Spring, and we're happy to report that our top 10 list is a multiculti mix — with just two new faces hailing from modeling's most prolific breeding ground, Russia. The girls who caught our attention come from Senegal, China, India, and West Philly. As they say in Paris, vive la difference! 1 Comment
Even though it's been a while since the Transportation Security Agency implemented airport liquid regulations, I don't think I'll ever get used to it. Simply put: it's freaking annoying. But, I'm not going to do anything to jeopardize my trip. What I can do is minimize the liquids I take on my travels with me. For cotton items, like this Victoria's Secret Plaid Shirtdress ($68), I learned a brilliant solution to keep them wrinkle-free and travel-easy.
The time has come my Fab friends. After combing through every Spring '09 collection, I am in love with clothes (and accessories) all over again. There was chatter about the economy and whether or not designers' collections were going to respond. Some did, some didn't. What did happen was a good balance of safer, but still gorgeous, wearable clothes, tempered by fantasy. We still want to buy clothes, but we must always dream . . . Perhaps one of the few designers who clothed both of these ideas was Dries van Noten. There were unexpected details, but calm cuts and overall mellow mood. That, is what we need right now.
The always-smiling Mandy Moore lit up a recent red carpet not only with her grin but also with her ensemble. On top, she kept things casual in an Alexander Wang tank and a modern denim jacket. On the bottom, she went sexy in Larsen Gray's black band skirt and nude sandals. Most stars stay away from wearing denim on the red carpet, but I'm glad Mandy attempted it . . . and got it right.
Lingerie . . . and Laptop Sleeves at Victoria's Secret?! Panties and PC cases at the same place? Yes please! I don't know how long Victoria's Secret has been carrying laptop cases, since I stopped buying my intimates at the superstore, but I can't say I hate the idea — or the execution.
Some of Hollywood's best have been spotted wearing Givenchy's Goth-inspired dress, so it comes as no surprise to see a cheaper rendition from one our favorite retailers. This Emma Cook for Topshop Necklace Dress ($230) is similar to Givenchy's version, but looks more homemade than Goth. The soft baubles add a whimsical touch to the sewn-on chains and I fancy the rivets. You tell me, love it or leave it?
Norma Lewis (Cameron Diaz) looks pretty heated in this scene from The Box while chatting with husband Arthur Lewis (James Marsden), but she still manages to look classy and put together. She smartly ties a leopard print silk scarf around her neck to give this gray sweater dress a hint of color, while her black tights and simple booties effortlessly complete the look.
