Take Belgian eclecticism, mixed with California cool and Russian artist Malevich, and you have one of my favorite Spring collections thus far. Oh, Dries. A mix of elegant black and white and some punchy, definitively Dries colors, and you have the palette. Fluid pants, laid-back suiting, grid prints, embroidered clusters, and silky, boxy day dresses are all favorites here. Accessories also piqued my interest: grid print clutches, bauble necklaces, milky sunglasses, and graphic sandals. And the best part: these are all wearable. Many of today's designers struggle to find the harmony between inventive and commercially viable — van Noten found it.
Dita von Teese Reveals Her Secret Love — For Tights At John Paul Gaultier’s dance-inspired show in Paris on Monday night, Dita von Teese could hardly contain her excitement. “It was everything I come to the shows for, you know, theatrics. It felt like a show,” she told People. 0 Comments
Is it me or was last night's episode of Project Runway intense? Emotions are running high, as they normally do this close to the finale show. I liked the challenge — I love the New York Botanical Gardens (if you haven't been, go) — and the idea of creating evening gowns out of flora. Sounds easy right? You would think. But all the designers struggled with this one and didn't produce fabulous flowerful designs. I think guest judge Georgina Chapman, of Marchesa, was disappointed. Alas, next stop: Bryant Park!
Gwyneth Paltrow's role in Tod'sPashmy Dream doesn't stray far from her reality. The short film, directed by Dennis Hopper, portrays, Gwyneth as a famous star in Italy. While interviewing with a dapper reporter, Gwyneth gets bombarded by the paparazzi and makes a run for it — ditching her precious Tod's Pashmy bag. The little adventure continues with the reporter chasing Gwyneth around town trying to return her Pashmy, all of course, with it casually slung across his shoulders. From the mystical flame blowers to the whimsical soundtrack, this mini movie makes for a fun six-minute break. Enjoy!
Sometimes, all you need are no-fuss jeans and a white button-down shirt to look super stylish. Case in point: Cameron Diaz at AFI's Night At The Movies event in LA. Even in denim, the actress shined. Of course, you can't walk the red carpet looking too casual, to help remedy that, Cam threw on red caged sandals, a bronze Gucci clutch, gold hoop earrings, and red lipstick. What a divine combination of menswear and womenswear. Try it sometime.
There's nothing more beautiful than a redhead in dusty pink. And who better to portray the frilly girliness that is Donna Karan's Resort '09 line than model Karen Elson? "Karen has this paleness of skin, this white skin that was so delicious," the designer said. "There is a little bit of decadence and glamour, but at the same time honesty to it." This is the designer's first-ever resort ad campaign, and she's done a fine job. Starting from the soothing color palette to the delicate fabrics and Karen's nonchalant posing, it's quite memorable. What do you think about these boudoir-inspired ads shot by Michael Thomas?
Rachel Bilson was out shopping in LA looking vintage-chic in a pair of shearling boots. Although the fur stole the show, the rest of her outfit was just as cute.
