YumSugar Gift Guide: Wacky White Elephant

A White Elephant is a type of gift exchange in which each guest is asked to bring an anonymous wrapped gift.

A White Elephant is a type of gift exchange in which each guest is asked to bring an anonymous wrapped gift. Usually, there is a maximum amount of money that can be spent, and oftentimes the gifts are unpractical and eccentric. If you are attending a White Elephant party bring fun shaped ice cube trays. A set of Emeril's spices are hysterical and could provoke conversation about the future of Food Network. However, my favorite gift is this chicken kitchen timer. It's ten percent bizarre and 90 percent practical. I definitely wouldn't buy it for myself, but it would be fun to get at a White Elephant gift exchange.

Gift Guide: White Elephant Gift Exchange

If you're not familiar with this fun custom, I insist that you try a white-elephant gift exchange in the future!

If you're not familiar with this fun custom, I insist that you try a white-elephant gift exchange in the future! In this gift exchange, guests bring anonymous gifts to a pile, and then determine a random order in which to grab presents from the pile. Guests can then steal other guests' gifts, or take another wrapped gift from the pile.

My friends always have a white-elephant book exchange during the holidays, and other people I know specify dollar amounts for white-elephant presents to make things fair. I've rounded up gifts at low-price points that would appeal to a variety of folks at a white-elephant party. Let the stealing begin!

Fit Gift Guide: White Elephant

Christmas is so near.

Christmas is so near. I can feel it nipping at my heels. I have been sharing some gift guides with you, but in terms of humor, this one takes the cake.

Gag gifts go a long way in my family. It is a hearty tradition! Here are some White Elephant, I mean Ele-fit gifts, for you to consider.

  • Flip-flop Socks: Yep, these split-toe socks were designed especially to be worn with flip-flops. The split is strategically placed to accommodate the thong — the toe kind.
  • Wholesome Wear Swim Suit: This modest swim wear that leaves a lot for the imagination. It combines the swimsuit and beach cover up into one garment. It protects from lustful gazes as well as sun rays.
  • Z-CoiL Sneakers: If Dr. Seuss designed orthopedic shoes, he might have dreamed these up. The shoes are designed to help relieve foot, leg, and back pain by reducing impact to the body.

YumSugar Gift Guide: Newlyweds

When Christmas shopping for the couple who was recently married, stay away from items that may have been wedding gifts.

When Christmas shopping for the couple who was recently married, stay away from items that may have been wedding gifts. Instead, opt for fun and useful accessories for their kitchen. A simple serving tray is always welcome, as is a stylish tablecloth and napkin set. Or give them a cooking-for-two cookbook. They will be able to make delicious meals together for many days to come!

The Gifted Child: Stocking Stuffers

Tick–tock, tick–tock. Christmas is almost here!

Tick–tock, tick–tock. Christmas is almost here! All the gifts are under the tree but those stockings are still empty. Here are some lil fillers to make your tots smile.

Vulli, the maker of Sophie the Giraffe, now has an adorable and safe new line of soft chew toys. Fans of Sophie will most definitely find Vulli's three small mushrooms charming and delightful. Their names are "Chan" "Pie" and "Gnon," which is a play on the French word for mushroom – champignon. At $14 each, they are made of phthalate–free natural rubber and squawk happily when squeezed.

Another safe toy for your kiddo to find in his stocking is a felt donut from Lilly Bean ($10). Its pink "frosting" and colorful sprinkles, your babe will want to eat right up.

And your lil one might have a new best bud in Sevi's Pull Along Horse ($19). The equestrian friend has a soft mane, a fuzzy tail and is made of wood and decorated with vegetable based paints. Oh, the places those two will go.

Stocking Stuffers: Tiny Treats For Geeky Guys

If you are in the market for stocking stuffers for the geeky guys in your life look no further.

If you are in the market for stocking stuffers for the geeky guys in your life look no further. After years of judging the Christmas morning faces of my male family members I have compiled a collection of small gifts that will make a big statement.

While it may seem juvenile for anyone over age 12, the Tony Hawk HelmetCam, $50, is a surefire hit. It can strap on to any helmet and has a special laser target feature, which means he can set it, press record and start recording extreme sports, birthday parties or goofy nights out with friends. The geeky guys in your life will flip — I promise.

Gift Guide: The Newlyweds

Newlyweds are generally the easiest people to shop for because they want anything and everything for their homes.

Newlyweds are generally the easiest people to shop for because they want anything and everything for their homes. Having a registry to shop from doesn't hurt either. But, I try to stay away from the registries and get a little more creative with my newlywed gifts. In general, try to choose something with a little color and charm that'll keep their new home together from looking and feeling plain vanilla. No white serving platters allowed! But remember, you're not shopping for your own tastes. So, you may have to go with some salt-glazed stoneware for your more traditional friends. I've rounded up a few gifts at various price points that will be sure to please even the most boring newlyweds you know.
